  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The future of low light performance in prosumer cameras?

I really anticipate new cameras from Sony and Canon before scarlet is actually available in a tangible, adult who makes a living sense.

real name Jeff Morgan

I highly doubt Sony, Pana or Canon will come up with something to compete with the Scarlet on time. If you think it's taking RED for ever to come out with the Scarlet, then I can assure you it takes even longer for those companies to design something new and groundbreaking.... Heck panasonic and Canon have yet to get you a camera that can do TRUE 1920x1080 for under $5k.....

I love the Mario analogy though!!! :emote_happyhappy:

absolutely a fair statement, and I will concede that the price point will LIKELY not compete, but its also true that when we do hear from them about the future camera, it will be a firm date and price point... something to be planned on. And i am NOT an advocate of Sony or Canon... or Panasonic, but I wouldn't count them out... not with the timeline we seem to be logically looking at.

still, I hope i am wrong.

and now, Maz, you are my new best friend for appreciating the Mario comment

I dont know if this counts as a LOW LIGHT RED FOOTAGE post, for whomever requested it, but it may count, especially at 120fps:

I doubt any serious producer or production camera would ever work with anyone who planned to use equipment that hadn't been released yet. No matter what the company.

Thanks Jeff, I saw some other footage on vimeo concerning low light, but you really never know under what circumstances these uploaded videos are shot under. I hope RED releases more footage from the Scarlet on Nov. 30th. Izzy only made me desperate for more.
