Hi,

I need to CC a limited amount of hv30 footage to intercut with the red. The "look" of the footage is acceptably close in terms of noise and dynamic range, but color rendering is noticeably different. Under redspace, the red renders green far bluer than the hv30. Skin tones are similar, thankfully.

Are there any images available online of colorchecker charts shot with the red (under redspace and rec709, the two color spaces I use)? I would like to compare these with the hv30 (any colorchecker charts from that, too?) on "cine" mode to have a rough guideline from which to create a chroma curve in color. I know this isn't the most precise science, but I don't own a red so I can't shoot my own charts and all I really need is a guideline for CC. Thanks.

No doubt they are, however they may not help you as they would need to be under the exact same lighting conditions as your shots (that or you'd need someone who'd shot RED ONE and HV30 charts under controlled lighting).

I'm running a bit short on time these days, but I have a R1 and an HV20 (which is pretty much the same as HV30 in terms of optical quality) and if I get a moment to shoot some tests, I'll post them here. Actually amazed I haven't done that test already. I like the HV20 under controlled lighting situations. Very good picture. But matching them, that could be tricky.

Thank you, that would be amazing and so helpful. It's not a big deal if you don't have time as this isn't a very polished project anyway, but I'd be curious to see this, and it would be a big help and I hope it might help others, too. I shot 5600K and 3200K (relatively unmixed in both cases) in both redspace and rec709 and cine mode 3200K on the hv30.

I ran the hv30 through uncompressed HDMI and I have to agree; it's got its flaws (the lens is not great and the skew is simply horrible and hdv makes everything worse, of course) but it is (and likewise the hv20 I'd assume) a ridiculously good camera for the price. That said, hopefully I won't find myself in this situation again.
