If you enjoy history, WWII, kick ass 'Saving Private Ryan Like' battle sequences and gut wrenching human stories - watch it. :emote_popcorn:

If you like John and Kate + 8 - don't watch it.

P.S. I love these little icons!

I've been watching it over the last few days and hopped on here to see if anyone had posted about it.

Fascinating.

I just met Bud Anderson a few weeks ago at an air show, as well as Dolittle's copilot on the Tokyo raid and some Pearl Harbor vets, etc. All very humble and humbling men. Seeing the footage on WWII in HD instills similar feelings as talking to these and other veterans I have encountered.

Glad you were able to help bring this project together.

Best,

P.Cook

Frederic Lumiere .....This is an AMAZING series!!!!! I have had my eyes glued to the TV watching this. Thank you!!!!!!!!

Awesome! You could spend two years of your life making something far less important come to life. I know I have, so hey, kudos. Footage looks great for what it is, 8 and 16 mm film, shot under the most unpredictable of conditions. Bet those guys were not going around with a focus puller :-)

Anyway, amazing work, I'm recording and watching each episode several times.

Hey, now! We edit about 1/3rd of J&K Plus 8 shows. :-)

Don't knock it. It's been pretty great for biz the past couple years.

I hope to catch this show, though.

WWII in HD beats Curb, Dexter, Prisoner & Californication!

Thanks so much for the compliments everyone. It was a huge team work effort so I certainly can't take all the credit. Many very passionate and talented people were involved. Mainly, Liz Reph - my co-producer who is absolutely amazing!!!

Here's some good news for the series. The ratings are off the charts. Sunday night, we had the most viewers in Cable for men! We actually beat Curb! (my favorite show on TV). That's probably the way Jim felt when he sold more Digital cinema cameras than Arri, Panavision & probably Sony! ;)

The numbers for the rest of the week are just as good. Tuesday's were even higher. So that's great news...

Some big announcements coming up on the next project! ;)

Thanks again everyone. The Red community is a place very dear to my heart.

WWII in HD - reruns all day on History

WWII in HD - reruns all day on History

By the way, if anyone missed episodes of WWII in HD, they are rerunning them all day long on History.

Thanks for saying this!

I thought it was coming this next Sunday, so I was getting excited, then I realized it was a commercial I taped a week ago...

Wow. Congrats, Frederic!

Nice to see you back.

I watched most of the episodes, and recorded the ones I couldn't watch onto my HDR (Direct TV) for later viewing. You and your team did a superb job with these programs Frederic! The amount of historical and archival research involved in a project that large simply boggles the mind. I'm not surprised it took 2 years to complete - I would have guessed even longer. Knowing you, and your passion for historical projects like that, I'm sure that passion got you and your excellent team through the endless maze of details.

I tip my hat (baseball cap!) to you and your team. In a television world thoroughly infested with low-budget reality programs, it is so heartening to see a team with integrity resolve step forward and create such high production value historical documentaries. Again...my deep kudos to you and your team on those programs.

My DVR has been catching all of these. i watched the first one last night. Excellent amazing work all around. If this gets released on Blu-Ray, I'm buying it. Can't wait to watch the rest!

Great finds on the footage. I also like the way you structured the story lines, following individuals, especially the reporters.

Amazing. Powerful. From a guy who reads as many historical novels as possible, brought a lot to life for me. Thank you, Frederic!

Great series. I learned alot about the conflicts in the Pacific I had no idea ever happened. Thanks for your hard work!

transfers with R1?

transfers with R1?

Lots of film transfers done with RED ONE

Does that mean you used the RED ONE with some special macro lens to focus on an enlarged gate of a modded projector instead of using a proper film scanner to do telecine of original 16mm footage? interesting, could the GPIOs be used to sync with the film transport?
