What solutions has everyone come up with to get timecode out to the directors monitor?

With EVF and LCD on, they only get framing not timecode and menus. I don't want to get menus but I do have to get them timecode.

One option that I've found is to get a monitor from TVlogic that displays the timecode from the HDSDI signal. Other option is a separate Timecode reader for window burn in (or separate clock).

I'v also found this really annoying. I seriously don't understand why the timecod only can be output when using either the EVF or the LCD, not when using both at the same time. Maybe this is something that will be possible in a future bulid?

Will not be possible on future builds. It's a hardware issue.
I love telling the DP or focus puller we have to lose the eyepiece/EVF at the start of the shoot:-(
Epic will have 3 seperate assigned outs I believe...

Use an HD-SDI monitor with build in timecode reader. Problem solved.

The panasonic 1710 can read and display the HDSDI timecode.

Timecode is one thing.... but to read the correct clip number and roll is in my opinion more significant at our productions..... so that the script can write and check the correct correlation between scene number and filename on the script when they get it then afterwords in the edit room....

I've got a 1710 here and have been trying to get the timecode up, tried VITC, LTC etc. but no love, just, for eg.: VITC 00:00:00

Build 20.1.3

cool, jam sync has to be off. I wonder if that affects multi camera shoots. for instance if I had a lockit box would i not be able to view the timecode?

... I don't have any in house at the moment but can one untick jam sync once the time code has been input, but what of leaving the box on the camera?

Aha! so the plot thickens. Seems I can only get Timecode (free run) on the monitor, even when the camera is set to Edgecode (record run)

Anyone know how to get edgecode up on a 1710?

We don't embed the EDGE CODE timecode track in HD-SDI, just TIME OF DAY; however we could add that into future firmware.

Also, it shouldn't make any difference to the presence of timecode in the HD-SDI output if the camera is in Jam Sync or not.

On Build 21, V21.3.2 the CLIP NAME is included as VANC-2 data in HANC.

With an appropriate application - such as QTake - you can read both TIME OF DAY timecode and the corresponding CLIP NAME.

Thanks so much, Time code did work when jam sync was ticked but for some strange reason, and I'll try and replicate it once the cameras are back, it was reading VITC 00:00:00 as I said but then when I unticked Jam Sync the time code came on and then I went back and ticked Jam Sync and everything was fine. might just be a little niggly.

Ticking or unticking Output didn't seem to make a difference either.

I really appreciate your answering my question; thanks.

The only current solution to allow you to have the LCD and EVF plugged in and to see the mag and clip info remotely is QTAKE as Mark said. This is currently the only system that sees the data and can extract and display it.

Other than that, you should just get real comfortable communicating with the scripty. Ac's calling out clip names and mag changes etc.

QTAKE looks amazing, Under system requirements/Hardware it says:

New Quad Core MacPro
6Gb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120
2-drive RAID for media
AJA Kona3

New MacBook Pro
4Gb RAM
2-drive RAID for media
AJA IoHD

Am I correct in assuming that it's either the MacPro or MacbookPro that is needed, not both?

Yes. Laptop version can record single camera, MacPro can do dual cam.

Please do this, it would make the Ki Pro's ARM RECORD mode work the way you would think.

EDIT: i.e. make it either track the display/primary TC track setting or make it a selectable option separate to that.

Yes, they could add support for the IN-RECORD flag, but I think I know who has the faster firmware release cycle out of RED and AJA ;)
