So we all know the Fixed Scarlet will have a servo zoom. That being said, do you guys think it will offer better performance than typical fixed lens cameras? For example, will the zoom's top speed be faster than cameras like the HVX or XH1? And how about controllability? Will there be settings for speed and so on?

I also have a question about the field of view ranges for the zoom lens. I have been searching the various forums for the zoom ranges for the fixed lens for the Scarlet 2/3". Does anyone know the answer for the zoom ranges?

I am considering the Fixed lens or the Cinema versions but need to know the potential specs of the lens before I can make a decision. I know that there may not be any hard data for the final lens but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have recieved the information from another thread with the same type of heading. I understand that the person whom left that post is not an official from Red so the information may be in question.

Here is the link if anyone else is curious:

Yeah... I know.... :emote_rainshower:

I doubt an electronic ring will match the nice feel of a physical ring, but I would guess it would be more than adequate for most needs. The physical zoom ring on my HVX is a boon for snapzooms, as you're physically moving the glass, and no electronic feedback device will ever match that. However, the extra ring in front of the zoomring on my HVX is an electronic one that I've set for focus control, and it's been more than adequate for my needs.

And electronic ring itself I wouldn't be too concerned about, I would be more concerned that there's only ONE ring on the Scarlet fixed. I guess it'll all narrow down to just how good the feedback for zoom control will be on the camera body (assuming you set the ring on the lens to focus control, like I would). We just won't know for certain until it's out.
