Just watched it. Anyone else?

The concept was hilarious and it had a lot of moments where I found myself laughing out loud and even cheering. But not the best movie,
especially if you don't like blood baths. BUT, still worth renting cause, I mean, come on!!! FROZEN NAZI ZOMBIES?! HAHAHA!!!
I liked the first act with lots of Americana moments. And it was shot in the snow which is always cool, lots of very nice shots in the begining.

Anyhow, I am no critic or anything, just thought I'd ask if anyone else saw it and what they thought.

I went to see it at the Melbourne International Film Festival. It was a midnight show (as best as I can remember, very late) and the crowd loved it, laughed at all the right spots and groaned at the appropriate moments, and jumped at the tension-building scary bits. It was actually a good learning experience for me to see how a decent film 'plays' with its target audience and gives them what they want.

I thought it was quite a decent film for its gory/horror/tongue-in-cheek style genre. I wonder how much a movie like that costs to make?

Budget reported to be between 12-14 mill NOK ~ US$2-2.5mill. which is an average budget for a Norwegian movie.
Filmed at surrounding location and studios at Film Camp situated north of the polar circle.

I'm a fan of zombie films, and a patriotic Norwegian, but this wasn't very good. Has a great concept, and some really good ideas. But it's basically an amateur film.

Very uneven cinematography; a lot of the earlier sequences look like amateur HDV footage, then something must have happened, as halfway through it starts looking more like a real movie.

I believe parts of it were shot on Red (spotted at least one forum member on the credits), and director Tommy Wirkola is shooting a new feature w Red One and RPPs these days.

Hmm.... $2-2.5m doesn't sound too bad. I guess this gives me a point of reference for what kind of zombie movie can be produced for that kind of money (in Norway, that is).

I wasn't talking about the quality of the cinematography though. It did sort of have an 'indie' look to it but then again the look fits with its genre and none of us expected anything more from it. I mean, I wouldn't expect a film starring Tom Cruise to look like that but Dead Snow was fine.

I really enjoyed the film for how successfully it connected with the audience in the theatre. If I was to give it a score out of 10 for that, I would give it anywhere between 8-9.5/10. The audience jumped, they laughed out loud, they groaned at the cheesy bits, they cheered for the characters. That's a successful film in my books, regardless of the cinematography (within reason of course!). It did pretty well in the film festival circuitm including winning an award at Sundance if I recall correctly.

Part of the film was done with Red? Which bits I wonder.

Huh? Didn't look amateurish to me at all. If anything I found it really well made, with excellent timing and at times very scary. Maybe you are overly critical because it is Norwegian? The only critique I could have is that the story is a bit thin, but hey: it's a zombie movie.

I'm very happy to hear that you disagree! If this film finds an international audience, that's so cool!
