Hi,

I am having a weird problem with my charger.

Two of our four batteries won't charge on the left side of our charger anymore. Only on the right, on the left it shows a blinking RED/GREEN status.

As said this only happens to two of our batteries. I've asked RED and their answer is to buy a new charger. Which is a bit ridiculous in my eyes, since it's apparently quite a trivial problem and I can't believe it can't be fixed.

Would be great if anyone had a clue.

Cheers, Xax

Got the same problem here. Shot this week with an another Red package from a rental company and had the same problem.

Anyone at Red know about that ?

thx

I've had trouble now and then charging batteries, it seems to be a contact issue. There's a thread around here by the Switronix dude that seems pretty right on, they'll take your Red bricks in and add some little rivets to the contact holes for $50 bucks and make the connection much better. The theory presented there was that the limited contact was causing heat which then pretty much melts the plastic around the points and then makes it harder for the charger to reach.
I have fixed a couple of stubborn bricks (while in a jam) by carving away the plastic with my pocket knife.
My charger has recently stopped functioning as an AC adapter which bummed me out, but so it goes. I had been running it on a road trip off an inverter which powered off with the van it was running from, so I wonder if all the stopping and starting irregularity wore something out in the charger. I now have a stand alone AC adapter.

But why a side of the charger work and the other one doesnt with the same batterie. Pins on the charger seem clean on both side.

thx

I had my chargers with Red to be fixed at least three times!!!
Situation now is that one charger is not functioning since its fan is not working (had this problem in the past, Red replaced the charger, now it is again). The other charger sometimes charge sometimes not, sometimes at one side sometimes on the other. I couldn't figured out the problem.
Every time I send them to Red, and as i wrote, they were at red for repair at least three times, I had to pay for custom release etc.
Button line now is ... I gave up.
Last time I tried to deal with it Sean Ruggeri wrote me i must be placing the charger at a dusty place, I didn't want to risk the $500 inspection fees so I simply have two chargers which are half a charger.
If we are going to put some pressure on red to replace our non functioning chargers I will join but after going through this sage for three times and ending with half a charger I simply gave up.
I intend to be very careful with all the Epic accessories... if I am going to Epic at all.
Maybe we start a group on Facebook.

my two Red chargers are flakey. they charge what they want, when they want, not always on both sides of chargers. im very careful placing the batteries onto the chargers too.

definately thinking of investing in a new charger, but probably not from Red this time. sorry, I do need reliable chargers

There are so many reports about problems with both batteries and chargers.

I've had problems with both too. A couple of weeks ago I had a battery that wouldn't charge on the RED charger. Just for the fun of it I tried to stick that battery on a Sony V-lock charger and it charged just fine. Having charged the battery on the Sony - the battery now works with the RED charger again. Go figure!

Switronix and IDX both make batteries and chargers that are fully compatible with the RED One. They are also cross-compatible with the RED batteries and chargers. Available at Abel Cine Tech.

Wow, I can't believe so many people are having this same issue. My second charge plate stopped working inexplicably a few weeks ago. I just flashed red and green when a battery is on there. The other side works fine (and praying that it continues to). I always keep my charger in the same place. It never moves, and I just drop the batteries on there when they need to charge. It makes no sense why the second terminal would just simply stop working. I did email Red support but I'm not sure that there is anything they could advise me to do to fix the problem.

So, if I'm reading correctly on this thread, it seems to be an issue with the contacts??? Any advice is appreciated.

Best regards,

Omar

sometimes it's a build up of carbon on the femal contact of the battery, I cleaned it with some salvo and it obviated the problem, but it's still intermittent.

I can't believe that RED's answer is "buy a new charger".

This doesn't really steer me to another RED charger, but a third party product.

RED CHARGERS

RED CHARGERS

I can't believe that RED's answer is "buy a new charger".

We have several thousand chargers in the field, so some will experience issues, as will other vendor's.

However, with regard to the above comment, I think that you need to talk directly to Brent.

It seems that there are a few of us that are experiencing the same thing here. Is there anyone who has had this specific issue that has been able to isolate the cause of the problem and fix it? It would seem from the intermittent nature of the issue that there may be an easy (relatively speaking) fix.

I've checked all of my contacts...they seem to be clean and not bent... so the issue probably lies somewhere else.

Oh and a bit more information. The non-funtional second charge terminal just flashes green for anywhere from 30 min to 2hrs (as far as I can tell) before switching to the red and green flash. I'm not sure if that helps to illuminate anything but I figured that I'd share.

And what's up with the 250ms this and 500ms that all I want to know is that my battery is either charging, fully charged or faulty. perhaps 80% charged would be nice but not necessary.

250ms ??!!??
