Hi,

New here, but just shot a short film on RED... it was definitely an experience, and I am learning all the backend stuff the hard way... here's a collection of footage from the film, featuring a car chase with a 1981 Porsche 911! The budget was $15,000 and we shot about 40 pages of script. Everything was shot in the Bay Area, Guerilla style, with no permits.

Seeking advice and comments!

Thanks,

Not bad for the budget and doing it all with no permits. But it seemed like most of the shots were just a little too wide. But I guess that would make it a little easier for the run and gun aspect of this.

Looks great, though a question, when you say no permits, surely to run on the streets and be in those public places with a weapon you had one or at least alerted the police right?

40 Pages? Is this a short film or a music video? <-- nevermind i just saw that this is just a collection of shots.

Also it says that all the shots are "RAW" on the bumper of the video. Are they actual raw or did you apply the REC709? They certainly dont look like raw footage.

Great job though!

Zakaree I would pick the Red hands down unless $ was the factor, but if nobody gets payed and you can get a One I wouldn't think twice. If you need to pull easy for a particular shot then shoot 2k, at least you have the option. Sensitivity however may have been a factor to consider... still... the colors... I dunno. 15k is a tough mark.

-Actually, we didn't... but we were shooting in East Oakland, and I've been there before when a real gun fight went off, and cops never came... ghetto!

But it worked for the purpose of having no one hassle us

I think an ex3 would have been a better choice for this...

Low budget, guerilla, and RED are usually hard to pull off and make look right.

Hey Zakaree, after messing with the RED I doubt I would have been as happy with the ex3, although there's nothing wrong with that camera

Actually, most of our shots were tight, and we varied them a lot. I didn't shoot wide to compensate for run and gun at all. There's 1.5 terabytes of footage, and what you saw was just a small part of it. Although now that you mention it I grabbed mostly wide shots for the clips, I guess you shouldn't judge the shooting style from what you saw. It was more for the crew to see some of their work and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Hey thanks! I'm actually not sure if the REC709 was applied, I'll have to ask my DP, but I don't think so. Maybe the footage didn't look RAW because of the way I exported it?
