Trailer:

I'm the world's biggest "Clash of the Titans" fan ever. I've been talking this film up as a remake possibility forever. "Clash of the Titans" came out when I was quite young, but old enough to see it about 15 times at the local theater the summer it came out.

I'm not sure what to make of this trailer. First of all, the trailer is a jumble of random shots, and seems to not really have any structure at all in terms of hinting at the story. The rock music and ramped edits = lame and played out.

The original had a very classical look. Yes, it was an action film, but it was also a magical film, shot on beautiful locations. The new film looks way too dark, with so-called "edgy" over-color-correction, etc. It sort of has that "shot in Czechoslovakia" look, and seems to be ripping off Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, and 300 all at the same time. It's a shame because the original had such a great look and story.

Oh for cryin' out loud "TITANS ... WILL ... CLASH"?? It looks like another extended dance mix music video movie. With a "Chronicles of Riddick" color scheme, "Transformers" chaos-as-action scenes and showboat over-acting. Sorry I'll be missing it.

Edit> OK, saw it now thanks to Brent's link. ...Meh. This one is instantly marked for some lower slot in my netflix queue.

Some movies should never be remade. They are perfect just the way they are. Clash of the Titans is one of these. Wizard of Oz being another, etc.. Actually I'm surprised Hollywood hasn't defiled the Oz legacy yet, I swear they don't know when to stop. And I completely agree with Matt. They have no idea how to tell a story these days, apparently they can't write one either.

Hahahahahahaha. Oh I laughed through the entire thing. This is going to be hillarious. Then again I never was a clash fan.

Can't say this trailer is any better.

I can't get enough of those early 80's style trailers.

"the this... the that... the this... the that..." they always listed things out, slowly. Love that style.

You shouldn't remake Clash of the Titans. What's next? The Beastmaster?

Harryhausen forever!!!

totaly agree.

Honestly, If you took away the Drama Metal soundtrack it would only be marginally douchey. Could turn out to be cool. You can make a trailer as cool or as stupid as you want ;-)

I disagree with you on this, Jeff. I think "Clash" was totally ideal for an epic remake, because the FX are just WAY too dated right now. Sure, they are legendary and awesome for their time, but for young viewers, they will be a distraction. This movie could have been updated with amazing new FX, to keep the story current and relevant. After all, it's basically the most perfect mythological story ever told on film -- even better than Lucas's take on the Hero's Journey.

The problem with this remake, as with all sequels and remakes, is that it always comes down to the director. Sorry to the director if he reads here, but this guy's resume does not impress me. The Batman franchise was extremely wise to bring on a talented director like Nolan, and that decision paid off bigtime. For Clash, they should have brought in Aronofsky, or PTA, or any seriously talented guy who really has a love for the story and the history of the film.

Once again, a mediocre director seems to be bringing down a legendary franchise. When will Hollywood ever learn??

A lot of images looked great (horse running on the beach) but the heavy metal, was a little to leading for me. 'the thrill starts here: play music'

Also, won't know for a little while. Good/great movies take years to realize there greatness. I can still watch the original any day of the week... even if it's only for nostalgia.

Still semi enthused for this movie- loved the original. But please stop with the Iron Maiden-themed trailers. And TITANS. WILL. CLASH. may just qualify for laziest tagline of all time.

I've got to say it doesn't look that bad to me. I too was a kid when the original came out and loved it. I remember recording it off of the TV on our first VCR and watching it one summer until the tape nearly broke.

As was previously mentioned, the "drama metal" is bad, and the ramping has really run it's course. But that being said, it's just the trailer and these may not be emblematic of the tone and feel of the actual film.

To me the stop motion effects of the original were so key to the mood and feel of that film. I'm not trying to put down cgi, I think cgi artists and good cgi in films (where it is used appropriately) are invaluable. However, (and I imagine everyone will think that I'm nuts) I think it would be very interesting to see another epic action film utilize the old stop motion effects...simply as a creative choice. As it was mentioned earlier the original Clash had a "magical" feel. I think that part of that feel came from the type of effects that were available at the time.

Just my two cents.

See, I thought the horse running on the beach was sort of a hackneyed shot. Very default and boilerplate, to me. Check "The Black Stallion" to see how it's really done...

Actually I do agree with this, but... The reason I say Hollywood should never remake certain films is because they have a 99.5% chance of failure when doing so. Hollywood proves time and time again that they can't just remake a film for the better to use new technology, but rather they continuously screw up the film by over-doing the FX and sabotaging the story. Look at The Day The Earth Stood Still.. OMFG, what went wrong??? War of the Worlds. LOL, seriously..

Watching this trailer for the new Clash just reinforces my opinion here. 30 seconds of over-done stunt work and rubbery CG puppets plus three uninspired shots ripped off from LOTR and two from Gladiator.

We can blame the director. Sure, much is up to the director. But then again, there's the writers and producers, not to mention the studio execs that still approve and sign off on this stuff.

Once again, a mediocre director seems to be bringing down a legendary franchise. When will Hollywood ever learn??

I'll bet you $10 the writers are more to blame than the director. My money says there's 40% less dialogue in this film vs. the original, compressed into 60% as much time, leaving the rest of the time open for all the visuals. But hey, they've got a giant CG scorpion so it's all good, right?... :cheers2:

And we can bitch about Hollywood sacrileges all we want, but Hollywood proves time and time again that they are good at one thing. Making money. Nothing is going to change until they start losing money across the board. Not going to happen with the mindset of current audiences that will pay $10 to watch a pile of steaming crap and be happy about it.

Yep.

The CGI looked horribly fake (which used to be a bad thing before audience expectations were ground down). I'm sure one of the CGI guys on a Jihad around here will jump on me for that. I will save my money though.

"Transformers" chaos-as-action scenes and showboat over-acting. "

I'll let Terry Gilliam say it, again:

“Trailers from Transformers, G.I. Joe, Harry Potter; they all had the same explosions, the same sound mix, the same rhythms, it was all the same film,” the director says, still not quite believing it. ” Hollywood’s been doing this for 20 years. When’s it going to end?”
