EPIC x and Scarlett for Steadicam

I have an Actioncam (thanks Dennis!) as a steadicam and I have the weight balanced just right for the batteries below and the RED One on top (using an 18-50 Red Lens - but switching to RPP).

Main thing I am wondering , that the EPIC X would be awesome to use in a distributed mode of Steadicam rig. But how long are the datacables going to be if i choose an option to put the RED Drive or additional gear on my waist.

If it was the EPIC X, it seems it would be all self contained on the top with no need for accessories on the bottom. (but I we need balance for steadicams on the top and bottom). - will the cable stretch or special 3 - 4 foot cables have to be made for separate modules?

I think it would also be important to establish the thickness/flexibility of the cables.

If you make the rig lighter you trade off intertia, making it more prone to outside influences, the cables running to your waist could make achieving satisfactory balance quite difficult.

It would be nice to see if the cables could be run down the centre-post to the other modules, could be a great help to distribute the 'up-top' weight of a 3D rig for example.

Wouldn't it be a better idea to keep the RED drive somewhere on the steadicam, rather then your waist, to keep it from getting bumped ?

I know Epic X would be too heavy for my Steadicam Merlin, but I was thinking for Scarlet, this might be a good Steadicam Rig.

Brain, CF Module, Redmote (wireless), and then a cable going to the touchscreen monitor with an AC next to me for follow focus. Or if Red does decide to incorporate a follow focus with the Redmote then have the monitor on top.

Hopefully that'll be under 5 lbs. On the original spec sheet it said the Scarlet brain would be around 3 lbs, but then again it said Epic would be around 4 lbs and Jarred said its around 6 lbs now, so I guess we'll see.

If you go to the RED store you can find a longer drive cable. Also I have the actioncam and I just took the top stage off and ran a cable down through the center post.

Dont use the Red Drive with a Steadicam. Take the time and invest in the RedRam or a set of 16gig cf cards.

- But remember gravity and weight displacement. Dont make it too top heavy nor too bottom loaded. As the closer to the post you load equipment the less/more "free spin" is given to the rig as a whole.

(One time a DP wanted to use Anamorphic lenses (lots of glass there). and it was a bear. but we ended up using both batteries on the dual charger as well as large washers to compensate for the top heavy weight.)
