Hello, I'm planning on shooting a documentary in LA next year on the 2/3 scarlet because I don't need 35mm dof and 3K is plenty of resolution, but I was wondering what are some good solutions to the storage issue?

I'm thinking about maybe getting a few 16GB CF cards and a couple red drives. What exactly is the downside to the red drives compared to a red ram?

Also, can someone point me in the right direction as to a long term storage solution, because I plan on filming over the course of an entire year.

Thank You for any information you can give.

They do lot like vibration or sudden movements. Also, since they have moving parts, they are more prone to failure. Back up often, and to multiple destinations. If you look at bit around on the forum, you'll find lots of threads dealing with this.

LTO3
LTO3a
LTO4

they last 30 years and are used by banks.

Again, have a look around, and you'll find you are not the first to ask these questions ;)

Happy shooting!

thanks for the answers and sorry for apparently repeating old questions.

You could archive each day's footage to Blu-Ray discs ($4 per 25GB). That's an alternative and much cheaper solution to buying a large RAID and backup drives/RAID's in the short term.

LTO is great too!

I would highly suggest RED RAM/ yes it has lower capacity. But switching these in and out with R3D Datamanager will make your life alot easier and your DIT will love you more.
