We are thinking about buying a back-up Red1 camera. We are considering a purchase of an EXECUTED serial number. Is there anyone interested in the Stage-One program that does not want to keep their Red1? I am not sure what value an EXECUTED serial number will have?? Maybe some extra $ is all you need to help you to get into the Stage-1 program. Our other option is to just buy a new Red1 that is not EXECUTED.

I'm wondering what Red will do with all the trade-in R1's from stage 3.
It would be nice if they sold them refurbished.
My dilemma is that the R1 is an awesome camera - even after Epic/scarlet - and it's really all I need. But knowing there is better and potentially cheaper camera coming out (Scarlet) I'm holding off on buying an R1 - without knowing when the Scarlet S35 will be available to mortal people without an R1 serial number.

$28k for .5k

$28k for .5k

We are very interested in this new Epic-X camera but it is real tuff to come up with $28k in this economy. I am sure all around the Epic-X will stomp on the Red1, but with this new 4.5K firmware upgrade, I think we are going to sit and wait for a 6K camera or 9k camera to roll out.

I will be selling my upgraded Red One MX for a fair price.

I have a really low number. (less than 200) Delivery was taken early too.

Keep in mind I am not selling my serial number. Just selling the upgraded R1MX camera.

Support will be a pass through setup. I will be your middle man.

Send me your bid now.

I think I will be one of the early one to upgrade.

Thank

Michael T.

P. S. Yes, you can choose not to upgrade. Don't see why not but yes.

I am not looking for a middle man. We are looking at purchasing a back-up Red1 that has had its serial number marked as EXECUTED that can never be traded in for a Epic.

Red does not allow the Stage-1 Mysterium-X cameras to be resold.

Same thing I am talking about.

Executed camera are usually out of warranty any way.

Do you want the upgrade or not?

If not you can have my executed camera.

I am doing stage one or two any way.

Just pick your choice of upgrade or not and the price you want to pay.

Thanks

Michael T.

Lonny,
#344 will be available as soon as I can do STAGE 2.
Although that is likely months away, so I'm sure you won't want to wait...
Just sayin...
Cheers,
Harry

I wouldnt need the backup camera until 2010. I would certainly be willing to wait until you had your new Epic-X in your hands.

I don't believe that the warranty status will change because a camera has been executed. ??

For someone who never plans to upgrade to Epic-X, this is an altnernate option. If warranty is void and a trade in isn't allowed, I expect that an EXECUTED Red1 will certainly be valued less than a new one. That price is yet to be determined.

I don't think "executing" a RED One will have any effect on warranty. Most of the first people who get to upgrade will have cameras where the warranties expired long ago anyway. I would guess that even after a camera is executed, the same principles still apply to ownership -- need to officially transfer ownership with RED so that support transfers with the camera, RED will probably re-certify the camera (for their standard fee) to give it a tune-up and 90-day warranty. I see no reason why any of this would change. The only difference between an executed RED One and a non-executed RED One is that the executed camera is no longer eligible for Epic-X upgrade / trade-in. Or potentially the discount on Scarlet, if that is to still be offered. The camera itself should still see many years of service and itself should be capable of upgrades to future sensors or other components as the market demands and RED deems worthy of producing.

That said, those who upgrade their RED Ones to the M-X sensor will probably have a new warranty of some sort, at least covering the new sensor and related parts, just as RED gave us a new warranty of 90-days for those who sent in the cameras for upgraded audio boards in the past.

Jim said that they would clarify some things soon. But I think whatever RED ultimately decides for handling of trade-ins on future RED One purchases will definitely have an impact on the resale value of executed RED Ones.

My RED One will probably be for sale in the not too distant future. I love it dearly, but it doesn't fit into my long-term plan. So my plan for now is the Stage-2 upgrade (unless by some miracle I can get TATTOO'd) and then once my Epic-X is up and running full time, the RED One (with M-X upgraded sensor) will probably be sold along with a good number of accessories (EVF, 5.6" LCD, Arri base, chargers, batteries, etc..).
