Dear REDusers,

My name is Mike Krumlauf. I am a young filmmaker in pre production on my first feature entitled "Written Images". The film focuses on a story I feel has NOT been told before and i feel it might gain some of your interests as well.

It follows the pains of being a gay teen both in and out of the closet. Information about the film can be seen on its page on facebook.

I set up a donation website that can help me raise money for production. My budget is currently set at 75,000. If you donate one dollar, it can help me tremendously.

Links to the facebook page and donation page are bellow.

Thanks for your time,

Mike Krumlauf

Trust me, they're not going to help, I've tried numerous times over and over again myself, for my film. I've had a donation site up for nearly 5 years and haven't gotten a single cent yet. I've come down to doing concert promotion with my production company and raising capital that way.

Watch it, someone might steal your idea ... seriously, you should be able to film this over the summer with other indie types for "no cost". Get everything for free ... locations ... help, etc. It sounds like this film is mostly acting and location oriented ie no costly special effects ... should be cheap to produce.

Wow, total letdown.... =[ there's gotta be a few noble artists in here that will donate to our projects.....

Sorry Man, It's A Gay Themed Coming Of Age/Love Story. No Chicks.

Raise money or reduce budget

Raise money or reduce budget

It should be possable to reduce the budget from $75000 to $5000 to get the film done with non-SAG actors. End up with one or two 35mm answer prints for showing to get it picked up if it is good enough.

If you want some advice on how to get a print to show you can PM me to talk about where the money goes.

Dan, already have the film casted, my budget is going into music releases, equipment rental, locations, transportation, etc, etc

Good luck

Good luck

I wish you luck then in getting enough money to do it.

Pretend your cutting the trailer for release.. Pick apart the scenes youd see in the trailer, shoot those scenes and cut it. It shouldnt cost much. This will help in your shopping for money.

Also, in my experience in film financing, people who will comit money on a personal (non business) level are ones with personal interests in the subject (or they like you). Go find funding in gay friendly areas, find gay people with money. People who believe in your cause will support you. This rings especially true with films which have political/sociological/religious slants. E.G Pro christian/jewish films seem to rally finance support due to their messages. Use the same philosophy to your advantage. Just get the money.

Genius Information, Thank You ACE. :coolgleamA:

Good luck with your film,

One thing to consider before asking for donations on a site like this is that pretty much all of us are trying to produce our own films on some level, so it's going to be very hard to find someone who'd be willing to invest in yours before their own. It's not the prettiest truth, but it is the truth. That doesn't mean we don't support each other, it just means we don't support each other financially. :) Again, the best of luck to you. And do what Ace suggested of course; that's the most logical thing to do.

Donations are not the way to go. In fact, assuming you do actually raise some money that way, you start opening yourself up to tax consequences when you start going over amounts as small as $1500 or so! ...That is unless you're a licensed charity, house of worship for a recognized religion (church) or a non-profit agency, etc..

As others have pointed out, many of us here are trying to fund our own projects, camera purchases, etc..

Best thing you can do is shoot a promotional trailer or pitch film for this feature and start shopping it around for investors. Also producing a trailer or pitch film shows that you can actually produce something more than an idea or a script.

By the way I ran across this site the other day. No idea if it's legit or if it's a good way to raise money but it seems like a better idea than facebook:
