I have build 20.1.6 When play back through the camera all is well but once I download through R3D data manager, Red alert etc i get only black images. This is the first shots after the upgrade from 20 .1.3 Any clues?

Have you tried deleting (move it to be safe) the RSX and QT refs from the folder.
run RA, load R3d.

Through FCP7 we tried to load the RS files but same result. So for now in order to get out of my pickle I have gone back to build 17 but I will test further after the job is done.

your footy is likely there if there were no posting issues on set. This happened to me last shoot.....luckily Steve Sherrick helped me out. Go to Red Alert and hit the defaults button.....it will reset your metadata settings....happened when my "Video" settings were switched mistakenly...

load an R3D into Red Alert and then hit the defaults I mean....your image should come up.
