I just got the HP Dreamcolor and will like to know if I still need to buy the Matrox MX02 in order to use the Dreamcolor. Do I just connect it to my ATI DVI port. Will I be able to utilize the 10bit from the monitor if I connect it without the MX02.

Secondy, can someone advise me on the best way to calibrate the dreamcolor. I have a Spyder3 Pro calibration kit, so will it be enough to calibrate with that. My second monitor is the Apple 24" Cinema display.

DVI is only 8 bit. You need to connect it either over hdmi or display port to get 10 bit, and then it depends on the rest of your hardware if that actually works - unfortunately it is not so easy. To calibrate it you need a special device from HP for the Dreamcolor. The spider doesn't access the hardware inside the monitor to store the calibration and can't register all the colors that the monitor can display.

Do a search for part number kz300aa, you have buy it seperately.

With the DVI, you can set it to monitor FCP on the desktop, REDCINE, REDAlert! and ROCKETcine-X on display display correct within 8-bit range. Choose 709 preset in the Dream Color OSD.

When you are using Dream Color as video monitor, as Sander mentioned, use HDMI from MXO2, then use MXO2's HDMI calibration but it won't be so off anyways. Also, MXO2 control panel will let you adjust super white/black on/off.

Also, don't forget to switch the aspect in the OSD to "1x1" pixel mode.

When I connect the HP dreamcolor to the first monitor I have (24inch Cinema display), I go to system pref and display and choose mirror display, I get the same images on both screen.

So can you give me a step by step procedure for me to see Just the video image (ie FCP canvas screen) only on the dreamcolor and then see my FCP widow layout on the APPLE lcd.

Also, is the "1x1" aspect on the dreamcolor 1920 x 1080 or 1920 x 1200

This question is assuming I am connecting the dreamcolor via DVi . I dont have the MX02 yet, so i need to connect via DVI for now.
