So I am planning on shooting soon with the red one camera. I understand the red one is not a point and shoot camera. However having tested some already I feel its not too cumbersome to shoot quick set ups. I ve seen behind the scene pictures of macgregor shooting with it run and gun style. Just curious to know if any other of you shoot in this method?

thanks

Nikons, CF Card, battery belt plate, small handles/shoulder mount system (if needed), screw-in filters, Lens hood (if needed), no follow focus, RED 5.6" LCD, handle. Under 15lbs, not such a bad rig to run around with. Attach a quickplate on bottom if you need to lock down at all. Pretty slick if it meets your needs.

Omar,

Most regulars here know that me and my crews have shot consistently in very lightweight, hybrid, mobile RED One setups, using 35mm stills lenses, no matte boxes (screw-on filters), no follow focus, with the shooter eye focusing RED using 1:1 image magnification, and quickly exposing using histogram and zebras. There are tons of other RED One shooters who use these same hybrid setups and non-hardlined EFP techniques. Traditional cine style is just one way to setup and use a RED One camera - but there are other viable approaches and variations thereof.

Me and my crews have shot almost exclusively in this hybrid run n' gun style since I received my RED cameras way back in August 2007 and September 2007. We use some of the lightest RED One setups possible - and yet we get consistently excellent footage. A big, heavy, immobile setup of RED One, with a bunch of people clustered around it, is just one way to approach this modular, flexible camera :)

Check out the "EFP/ENG and RED" forum here on RED User for a lot of threads and information for shooting the way you're asking about.
