Intel a few weeks ago previewed Light Peak, a new connection technology that will operate at 10GB/s and up. It can transfer files, video and data in one cable in both directions.
Do you think this will be a new way for Xsans to connect in the future? Apple seems to have been involved with Intel on developing this so the connection is close.
I guess this will be lowcost consumer oriented technology that could be used in a low cost xsan setup. Just one cable for data and metadata, connecting long distances and easy to setup. A Light Peak switch for connection. Off you go, 10GB/s and in a few year 100GB/s. Perfect for Xsan...
This would be great for r3d stuff. Moving big files really fast and possibly livevideo output in 4k thru one cable in the same system as the san...
