Amazing Magma ExpresBox Pro

Hi Gabriele,

at the moment I have a big mess in my studio room and will make order in 2-3 days.

Then it would be ready for the test like that...

The basic idea of this rig is to give opportunity of fast grade (dailies) on set DIRECTLY by a cinematographer,

director, even producer and this information sent to postproduction house for finishing.

There are already dedicated tools for that but no any has realtime capabilities like a Scratch that has capabilities to do this the best (or realtime 4K debayer with RR) on set.

Scratch could do sort of a "SCRATCH MOBILE" app with limited conform options maybe just to Apple ProRes, Avid Avid DNxHD or similar codec...

That would be very attractive rig that should consists the following:

- MBP 17" with Nvidia card
- "SCRATCH MOBILE" app (a sort of and still doesn't exist)
- If "Scratch Mobile" doesn't appear soon then you can do all (but slower) in FCP/Color, Premiere/AE, Vegas, 3cP, SpeedGrade On Set or similar apps...
- Or just do it all with ROCKETcineX free app from RED and helper apps like a Clipfinder to conform that in R3D...
- Magma Express Pro like an enclosure box>>Peter Majtan box>>MAXX Digital box,...
- RED Rocket™™™™™™™™™™™™™™™™™™™™™ card
- Tangent WAVE grade console or similar...
- HP DreamColor, Cinetal, Barco, Eizo, Sony, JVC, Panasonic, eCinema, Astro, TVLogic, Flanders Scientific, Ikegami, Tamuz, Marshall or any other 8bit/10bit grade capable monitor...
- Or any of the newest Panasonic plasma...
- AJA Hi-3G HDSDI ti HDMI 1.3a mini converter would help in a certain configurations...
- Even you could run dailies 4K realtime on 4 x monitors or plasmas if you would like to impress a client on set...

Hi sanjin,
thanks for the reply..

I know about the stuff you mentioned (actually I own a full scratch finishing...)
my scratch is capable of 2k realtomd debayer, and if I render out DPX I can get 27 fps...but the QuickTime node is slow...(15fps),
so i am wondering if system that use redrocket (even the macpro) can encode the QT HD in realtime (considering the RR can decode R3D in realtime...)

Gabriele,

RED Rocket does not accelerate the QT encoding.

Hi kaku!

I know that ...but the fact that the CPU if Free from the R3D decoding snake me think that a macpro should have enough power to encode prores in realtime...

So it is not like that?...
How many fps prores encoding can achieve the latest macpro plus the redrocket ?

Thanks!

G

RED Rocket ( as a by-product of doing the decoding ), definitely helps accelerate encoding to Quicktime H.264... by a pretty significant factor.

For example I just ran a test with a short 4k clip to be downscaled to Quicktime H264 1080p.

With REDCINE-X and the RED Rocket, it took 31.76 seconds to encode.

With REDCINE and no RED Rocket, it took 4 minutes and 23 seconds.

thats some pretty serious savings...

and that is not limited to just Quicktimes.. thats DPX's and pretty much everything else :)

Thanks Jarred :
Make sense because the cpu is free from the R3D decoding...and can take care of the QT using more resources ...

how long the clip of the test was?
What macpro?

PS:encoding prores same performance?

Thanks

g

Thanks J

Great!

Then 3cP/SF looks at the moment as one of the best apps for
MOBILE/ON SET direct support of RED R3D raw camera footage
"that allows color grading decisions to be made on-set by the DP and
to communicate them directly to the colorist with of goal of avoiding
creatively and production costly misunderstandings.
