  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So how much is SN#206 worth?

I fully expected to trade in @206 at the earliest possible moment as (besides the obvious desire to have the newest 5K toy) I need to get as much head start as possible on building the new underwater housing.

However, a very good corporate customer has expressed a need to upgrade ASAP (and get the first U/W housing) and is interested in buying #206 or swapping cameras (theirs is probably in the 2000s so).

I have to consider not only my need for developing the U/W housing but also the fact that I could probably expect $8 to $20K in easy rentals in the first couple months before the market is flooded.

So what's a fair deal on the swap?

And what's a fair deal for the camera outright? (Also considering I lose the Epic-X bonuses)

PS If it matters - the camera has very low hours and was sent back for the Upgrades in late august early september.

is there a release schedule? i think that will help determine the value. short of that info, no one really knows.

with the shedule delay and expecting big quantities..i say nothing.
between sn6 and sn4000 will be 4 weeks.

1.not everybody will trade in for epic-x...some will go scarlet and keep the red.
2.not everybody will trade in for epic-x...some will wait for FF5
3. some will just keep the RED
4. scarlet will be produced in huge quantities...so must be the modules...which are the same for epic and scarlet.
5. red learned
6. redrocket release was an example for the new model: silverado, red, etc...

but, what do i know?..hehe

Something I've been wondering too. If the delay is rather significant but it's just to tune firmware and they aren't going to update the chip at all I wonder if they won't start ramping up production and assembly ahead of release.

They might be able to come to market with a very large inventory and have a very short waiting list.

RED is saying they plan to get all BETA testing done before they start shipping, and with that in mind, I think the roll out will be a lot quicker this time.

RED is saying they plan to get all BETA testing done before they start shipping, and with that in mind, I think the roll out will be a lot quicker this time.

But even with heavy beta testing there are usually things that show up once production begins and lots of users starting banging on it in a lot of different situations. And even four weeks makes a difference to some people. - but I doubt if they will ramp up that fast if for no other reason than they don't need to and they need a little time to make sure they didn't miss any serious bugs or defects on the production model. As much as there are hundreds of loyal RED fans, there is also some serious skepticism with many others and RED needs to show that their quality, reliability, fit and finish, etc. are as good as Arri and the other players. If they are smart they will do a little more in house quality control checking on the first 500 or so to make sure that nothing slips by - and that takes time. This time around a near-perfect rollout is much more important than speedy delivery or accelerated cash flow.

PS If it matters - the camera has very low hours and was sent back for the Upgrades in late august early september so is still under warranty I believe.

mine are 1008 and 1248 and are out of warranty, so I don't think yours is still under warranty. the upgrade program didn't refresh the warranty...just fyi.

i personally don't believe that early Epics will have the same value that the early RED ONEs held - due to what will likely be a speedier roll-out...

also if RED ONEs get their Mysterium-X upgrade before EPICs are released, it may represent a less expensive alternative and there will be many of those available to dilute the field - bottom line is, there is no clear way to answer this question because there's not enough information to make a judgment - after october 30th, this may be easier to answer.

two more weeks... sheesh. i don't know if i can take the suspense!
