I KNOW I shouldn't upgrade in the middle of a project, but our FCP 6.0.6 system is having all sorts of problems and I am hoping FCP v7 is more stable, and after testing our project file on someone else's FCP 7.0 system and having no problems converting the file and reconnecting all the media.... I was wondering if anyone else may have upgraded from FCP v6 to v7 in the middle of a project and what problems the may have encountered specifically with a RED project and any conform issues that they might see for an online.

as a rule no. But personally I've not had a problem. I'd make an image of your system drive onto an external drive. then install. that way if something goes wrong you can easily restore.

I agree with Noah, as a rule no. But I recently upgraded a personal project (after taking precautions -- in my case making a duplicate FCP 6,0 project on separate drive with bootable FCP 6 version on it ) and have had no problems after a week of continued work in FCP 7. Which does have some advantages with Red workflow-- and a couple of nice little touches that speed my work (like the color labels carrying over into the timeline).

But still 6.06 was very stable. If you have problems now then trash your fcp preferences/caches files anyway. Even after upgrading to 7.0 ( which kicks ass indeed )

Our 6.0.6 machine was having all sorts of issues (trashed prefs, cleared renders, etc. about a million times) nothing worked. So we did the upgrade. Seems to be no issues so far with FCP 7

I haven't had any issues updating projects from 6->7, BUT... I updated to Snow Leopard when I updated to 7, so I have not run 7 on Leopard, for what that is worth.

By all means... make a clone boot drive using carbon copy cloner before you make any upgrades, so you can go back with out rebuilding a system. I recommend doing a clean install before you upgrade to a new FCP, regardless if you go to Snow Leopard or stick with Leopard.
