Is this thing out? I heard about it awhile ago and got the impression that it was never gonna see the light of day.

I also love how that shadowy camera looks an awful lot like the RED ONE.

Compression artifacts

Compression artifacts

If you download their TIF sample frames, then make them negative, and sharpen a few times you will see heavy block artifacts and places where low pass filtering has been applied. Maybe more so on the moving water and when the camera pans. You need to look at the TIF still frames since the compression artifacts can be harder to see in the H.264 which may have added filters during encoding.

It is sad that their compresion is being used and has such impact on the images, note that they do not have color samples.

It is not a 2K or true RAW camera it seems, rather a compressed HD camera.

I do not understand why they don't just make a uncompressed 2K camera or at least a uncompressed HD camera like the Acam dII which is now running at 25fps it seems.

The H.264 files look somewhat OK for monochrome H.264, but the grading range with the compression artifacts would be limited, and they are bound to create chroma artifacts, just as the wavelets in REDCODE also do, but it seems that are not as far along in hiding them...

If you want a compressed H.264 camera why not get the Canon 7D with its larger sensor, much of the advantage of a Digital Cinema camera is in the wide dynamic range true RAW recording gives to so you can work like ECN rather than compressed video which "burns in" limits due to the need to restrict the bandwidth and the tricks used to "fake" detail out of compressed blocks.
