  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Y2 Digital Cinema Camera

This was the code name "Nell" project... It has spinning mirror shutter, optical viewfinder, and an auto back focus electronically adjusted... the removable back is the data storage...

If my memory serves me well they going to have an S16 flavor and an S35... this must be the S16 prototype...

Its one of the best design I have ever seen... Lets hope that it will hit the market by the end of 2010...

... and an auto back focus electronically adjusted...

After using a Contax AX years ago I wondered about the possibility of doing this for motion cameras. I always assumed there was a complication that I couldn't see that would make it too difficult for motion (registration issues or something)..

Maybe Red should look into it!

It's gotten to the point where I find it difficult to distinguish between renders and photographs... in this case I think it's a render, but just because of the viewfinder... not sure why...

Great design.

YOLK Y2 prototype of new digital cinema camera

Now I finally have got why they were hanging on my shoulder(s) all the time and making jokes about Leica Noctilux lens I was testing twice.

It could be described even as a kind of industrial "close watching" and somebody would think maybe it's about sort of a product "espionage"...(!?)...

But anyway Y2 new camera looks very interesting.

Somehow and after all those stupid forum fights about Noctilux I would say to them now, congratulations YOLKS.

Now everybody is waiting for the camera specs.

Ok a bit more of "Nell" Y2... early CAD designs...

The bottom and the battery...

I can't say any more since I'm not authorized...

A bunch of people have asked me privately about this snce we're deep into Digital Cinema as well as Aaton's dealer for North America.

No, this is not an Aaton, although we can all plainly see where most of the design influence came from. No, I really can't tell you any more as it is not my place to. Perhaps David at Yolk might care to now that this has slipped out. Or perhaps not.

Looks like the designers are bringing the ergonomics of the traditional film camera to the digital realm.

There's something to be said for that.

It's unfortunate that they took their design from a 30 year old camera designed for small lightweight lenses. The LTR was designed to balance with a tiny zoom like a 9.5-57. Put modern glass, a matte box, and a couple of p size filters on there, and man is it front heavy.

Very cool... but I am more interested in specs than the look. As Nick said, it appears to be designed for lightweight lenses (which may or may not be a bad thing), but how can we compare it to other equivalent technology? At this point, Comparing this and RED could be like comparing a Lambo with a Chevy... or like comparing IMAX film to a homemade video posted to YouTube.

Maybe I am exaggerating a little bit, but my point is that I am interested in knowing specs before I will drool over the look.

Specs are topping out to whats really needed. Now its time to get design right on the money.. These guys nailed it for me!! You dont handhold with 12:1s anyways so whats the front weight complaint?? A short zoom or proper primes and a clip on, and this camera is prime.

Also we should not forget that

"Bolex is a Swiss company (Bolex International S.A. of Yverdon-les-Bains) that manufactures motion picture cameras and lenses,

the most notable products of which are in the 16 mm and Super 16 mm formats."

Mostly I was "driving" them crazy here at the forum, why (?) nobody knows (?), maybe Noctilux knows, but that's just a lens.

Irmeli and David from YOLK S.à.r.l

(Noctilux case)>> I would describe it more as a "fear" of new ARRIFLEX digital camera that should a sort of

"affordable" with a "BMW" like prices and quality digital cinema camera for every professional that is coming next year.
