Hi just wondering have RED tried the fixed 2/3 Scarlet on the Steadicam pilot ? With the scarlets funky design is the weight distirbution suitable for Steadicam work?

Introducing the weight module. Fill with sand to taste. :p

It should still have a centre of gravity which you can balance to. It should behave better than 16mm cam's where the film transfers from one side of the mag to the other causing weight to shift as the shot goes on.

why not? you still will have an adapter plate for "shifting around" - readjust the weights and springs of your gear and your up and away ... :gun:

here's red on an old (slightly modified) flyer (canon lens with birger mt)

yup i've seen the R1 on a flyer before, but the R1 has a pretty standard weight distribution. the scarlet on the other hand looks like its going to be tall and skinny. Oh well we'll just have to wait and see!

can't agree that - if you look at the videos from Amsterdam it will be a little bulky - and the lenght depends on the modules you add. so i think the brain with all the stuff to work will have the size of double DSLR ( one behind the other) and will gain more depth with added modules.

hey gerald thanks for the replies. i hope with all the added modules it will still weigh under 10lbs (for the pilot)

I think I remember the Red Team talking about the ability to have the modules attached via a cable, so you can honestly carry around your I/O and media modules on your belt.

And if I'm wrong about this it would be a good idea for Red to carry out.

Well, you wouldn't want cables running from the camera to your belt, but if you could run a cable down inside the post and put the modules on the bottom of the sled, that could be helpful.

I'm really looking forward to the REDmote as something an assistant can use, or an Operator could velco to their vest or the Steadicam arm, and be able to change settings and run/stop without disturbing the camera.

The number one thing for me is remote follow focus. If the 2/3" fixed or interchangeable lens Scarlets have the provision for remote follow focus right out of the gate, even if it's just the little rotating control wheel on the REDmote, I'll buy one as soon as RED lets me. If not... I'll have to wait and see.
