An edit has been created using Avid Media Composer with Speed Ramps and Dissolves. My goal is to do a color correct in Color pointing my media to all of my R3Ds and then send to FCP to output a final qt file.

- If I take an EDL from Avid that has any speed ramps they will not work in Color...how is this solved? Normally before working with red and in FCP I had always exported fcp qt files and colored those files. Now that I plan to go back to my R3Ds, whats the move?

If anyone can give me any advice or point me in the right direction that would be great!

Thanks in advance,

Jesse

The manual workflow would be for the Avid editor to take the shots which have the speed ramps, put them on a different sequence with the speed ramps removed, and supply an edl for those. Supply a different edl for the shots without speed ramps. You import both EDLs as two seperate projects, grade it, re conform the shots in Final Cut reapplying the speed remaps in your FCP online... Not a trivial proposition if there are lots of speed remaps.

Automatic Duck would allow you to send the Avid Sequence to Final Cut with Speed Ramps intact, but I still don't believe you'll be able to get the speed ramps into and out of color (unless the latest upgrade changes things significantly, I'm still on FCS 2

Thanks for the reply Craig!

So for the first EDL I would have to make sure that All of the media that was used within the ramp was properly added, versus just keeping it the same duration as it was in the edit and not having enough of the tail end on the shot to re-apply the ramp...?
