  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Release Date yet?

one would think that if the release dates are finally published then they'd be all over the place. But no, there are still people who think that Red will publish the dates in some completely random thread hidden somewhere and nobody will know.

When they finally make the announcement, these forums are going to light up with activity like an anthill after taking a shovel to it.

True that. Activity over at SU will also exceed exponentially.

I hope the the annoucement of a schedule will be accompanied by a description of the procedure to get in line. Otherwise, it is going to add to a giagantic, axious crowd that will stampede when the doors are finally open.

I still believe that auctioning line numbers (after Red One customers are served), with the price paid for the line number being held as a down-payment by Red, is the only orderly and fair way to handle this. It will also give them an early measure of likely demand so production can be planned accordingly.

Didn't Jim say they're not taking pre-orders/deposits on the Scarlet? Just first come first serve.

Could be wrong but think I remember hearing that. I got my credit card empty ready to put the fixed on there as soon as it's announced. Hopefully been a none R1 owner won't affect me too badly in the queue.

my main worry...but we'll all be taken care of...eventually....
what an exciting time to be a filmmaker! As soon as I have a fixed in my hands I begin production on my biggest budget project ever!

Better yet, I'm hoping all the RED one owners hated their cameras and won't buy another RED camera again, leaving all of us who really want an EPIC and SCARLET for their novelty having minimal wait time to get our hands on those little babies :)

I wonder how well you'd be able to pull of an indie feature like a romantic comedy with just a fixed lens scarlet, or would your DP kill you and people laugh at you? lol.

I was going to just use the Scarlet fixed for corporate type of work and get an S35 for the feature, with primes, etc. But I'm not sure how my business situation will be then, so it may come down to use the fixed Scarlet or rent the RED One...

Yeah, I would of loved to have been there when everybody showed up on the first day of shooting of, CRANK: High Voltage. To find they were using prosumer HDV cameras such as the Canon XH-A1, as well as a consumer model, the Canon HF10. Jason Statham probably laughed his ass off.

Heh, wouldnt be the first time

But i think im gonna save just a bit, and wait for the 2/3's cinema.

I hope there is someone (reseller) that's going to sell the Scarlet here down under at a reasonable cost.

For example a Canon 7D is around US$1700, here in Australia its around AU$2549 (body only) which using today's currency rate is around US$2198..

My concern is that even the most economical Scarlet will end up costing some AU$6000->$7000 and be next to impossible to source locally :(
