Thats FUCKED UP !

I only have the greatest sympathies for Mr. Polanski. My prayers are with him.

What! Could or would you feel the same if he raped your daughter? Please. As talented as he is behind a camera, he simply used poor judgment. He was 42 years old. Time to man up!

whatever.

Agreed. :nopity:

Er... The dude pleads guilty to multiple counts of statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl and then leaves the country. What did he, or anyone else, think was going to happen. He managed to buy himself over 20 years of additional freedom and win an Academy Award. Time to pay up.

Yikes, this one sure is complicated. While I'm a big supporter of people changing, learning and ultimately being let off the hook after they've served some time (I'm a fan of Michael Vick getting his 2nd chance now that he's paid his dues), I'm not sure Polanski EVER owned up to this. Did he serve any time or just flee/run?

That said, I read that even the victim now thinks he should be let off the hook.

Oy...not so simple here.

Before you pass judgment, you should understand ALL the facts.

Hmmm... Is there something new that I've missed? It's not like any of this is new. The arrest warrant finally caught up with him 22 years later. Downright amazing if you ask me. The way I look at it, is he pleaded guilty to a crime and then fled the country before they locked him up. He claims there was a plea bargain on the table, which doesn't matter now because it becomes null and void the second he fled and he didn't even stick around for it to be documented or enacted. Even if that DA were still alive or in service, the likelihood that such a plea would still be entertained now is almost zero.

It's definitely some muddy water though. His then 13-year old victim no longer wishes to hold him accountable. That's fine and great I guess. I suppose he'll be brought back to the states and they'll wrestle around with it in court a bit. Chances are he'll get a small slap on the wrist because it's been over 20 years, the girl / woman no longer cares and because of who he is. Not to mention the courts and prisons are overcrowded anyway and violent criminals are released daily due to this overcrowding and budget shortfalls. We have more important things to worry about than sticking it to an award winning filmmaker. ...Still, that doesn't mean he isn't a douchebag for skipping town after admitting his crime and knowingly avoiding arrest and extradition for over 20 years.

When this gets settled, who would you cast in, "The Roman Polansky Story"?
I guess we would need a young, middle and old Roman ....

"In 1977, he was accused of raping the teenager while photographing her during a modeling session.
The girl said Polanski plied her with champagne and part of a Quaalude pill at Jack Nicholson's house while the actor was away.
She said that, despite her protests, he performed oral sex, intercourse and sodomy on her.
Polanski was allowed to plead guilty to one of six charges, unlawful sexual intercourse, and was sent to prison for 42 days of evaluation.
Lawyers agreed that would be his full sentence, but the judge tried to renege on the plea bargain.
Aware the judge would sentence him to more prison time and require his voluntary deportation, Polanski fled to France.
The victim, Samantha Geimer, who long ago identified herself publicly, has joined in Polanski's bid for dismissal,
saying she wants the case to be over. She sued Polanski and reached an undisclosed settlement.
Zurich Film Festival organizers said Polanski's detention had caused "shock and dismay,"
but said they would go ahead with Sunday's planned retrospective of the director's work.
The Swiss Directors Association sharply criticized authorities for what it deemed
"not only a grotesque farce of justice, but also an immense cultural scandal."

were you there to see what happened?

or are you blessing the judge who had offered his bless to Polanski as soon as he could accept the cameras inside the trial room?

Before you pass judgment, you should understand ALL the facts.

Here Here.

I suggest some of the high and mighty chiming in should consider applying the same level of research to this case as they do for all things RED before getting up on the soapbox.

I'm with you, Jeff. It's so easy these days for all of us "fans" to forget that these celebs are human. Just because he's an incredible filmmaker doesn't mean he's a good guy, respectable, etc. It's a very odd world these days where everyone thinks they "know" their favorite celebrity... But we do have facts: He's an admitted sex offender who left the country before serving his time. I'm not sure how you defend that.

here's the victim
