  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First feature shot in 4.5K?

Nice work; any chance to see the shot of the 2 on the couch in full 4.5k? I'd love to see the detail in that shot.

Really nice work. What lenses and color correction system are you using?
The gamma on snow leopard is a bit dark but the images are really nice.

Thanks. I will try to get up a 4.5k image tonight after shooting.
We are using Zeiss ZF lenses and I did a quick color in REDAlert last night so this may not be the final look. I have to figure out how to get the images looking the way they do when I export. They seem to lose a stop or two when converting. I will mess around with that too tonight when we get back.

Looks like you had a lot of fun.

We sure did and doing it SUPER guerrilla style. Today's shoot went smooth too and we finished early. The actors flew through the dialog with ease and everyone outside was very cooperative.

So far so great. The only thing we noticed is that it seems like REDSPACE has changed a few stops in brightness in viewing from the RAW view. Before it seemed closer so if we exposed for RAW the REDSPACE would be good. Now it seems to blow out a lot faster. The other weird thing is that if you change ISO it seems to also effect your playback meaning if you record at 320 for a shot and then change to 500 for another shot and then go back play the 320 shot with the iso at 500 its over exposed cause its using the 500 iso. If you go back and change the iso to 320 and play back the 320 the footage looks fine. Not having any issues with the Zeiss ZF lenses we are using. We have done over cranking and time lapse also and everything has been great with that.

The iso thing scared us for a sec because we thought the blow out was burnt in to the footage and we were doing time lapse scenes with actors. :P

Yeah, its unfortunate the whole RAW vs REDspace thing. I kinda liked how Build 20 was for gauging exposure using RAW view. We tried that on Build 21 and it ended up biting us in the ass.

Now its back to REDSpace 24/7.

The wide (non letterboxed) files in Build 21 are too good to pass up though.

Spike - gorgeous pictures! The exteriors are stunning. For the ISO issue you've had, I'm assuming you mean that it's occurred when playing back in camera? If so, double check that your playback settings are "Clip" rather than "Camera" (System Menu - Set Up - Preferences - Playback - Look) - then the file should play with the initial WB, ISO, etc. values at which it was recorded.

Best of luck with the rest of the shoot, can't wait to see more!
