You can put the REDMOTE anywhere you want... and you also have a handle with all controls.

Is there a wired capability with either? I think the REDMOTE will be very workable for our underwater stuff, but there are those that will want some funky positioning on the outside of the housing and radio signals don't travel very far U/W (inches unless extremely powerful.)

its not a good place to control record and shutter in shoulder, tripod"mode"
there is your head - look at the Arrrrrriii... SR3 Menu thats ok for rec, fps control!
"under" the EVF place like the Redone.

ohh and a extra shutter or ISO wheel like a F900 would be great to control max. DOF

Hi Brian,

You are a little late to the party with this discussion. The current Epics design as you see it is a result of 1) Red's vision 2) User input.

We'll each have to adapt it to our individual needs, or adapt ourselves to it, same as any camera really, except quite a few more variables.

think about it "every" red1 user
use the "front" Record button and now there is nothing
y can use to control it like a pro cam - in front of your head!!!

y cant control the right side
In shoulder or fullrig use!

in shoulder mode you have a better time using a REC switch in the handle - with every camera out there.

epic has not a handle "rec" like a Digibeta or HDCAM
the epic handle is not for shoulder and tripod operation
the only!! way is to control over the remote
but there is no good position for it to control

why not 4 assignable keys on the front (near) like the redone
The Epic controls are like a Digibeta or R1 and contol it !!only!! over the rear :-(

cant belive the redmote at the side has the ideal place to control.....

dont get me wrong red makes a fantastic jump between "5d" style and filmstyle but i need a full working cam for the next 50years =)

I'm going to shut down this thread if the nonsense continues...

Brain... need your real name. My patience is wearing thin.

RED GPIO connector lets you program and mount a remote record start/stop button anywhere you want to.

Why is this a difficult thing to understand?

The RED One has buttons on yet. Yes.

The EPIC is a body with no buttons because the buttons are where you want them,
the grip has a rec button as does the RED Mote,

is THAT really hard to understand? no. The ability to the move them is there...so whats the issue? At least now it doesn't suit just ONE kind of user but every user has their own preferred method of using the camera. If its a serious issue, dismantle your Epic brain and go ahead and throw in a button if it'll make you feel better...

I just don't see the need to start placing buttons on the brain! Just leave it to the modules to have the buttons (the rec ones at least)

Perhaps the Red Team could one day offer another much smaller remote that has a button or two on it, so that Brain S. could stick it somewhere? Ahhh, with velcro perhaps.....or more professionally with Allen Bolts.
