  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Control...

Jim you have no idea how ecstatic this makes me. It was just yesterday that I was geeking out over RED in the back of a van to set with people and the question was "when?" I knew you guys would come through. I CAN'T WAIT!

Jim, will the new offerings include a new Nikon mount? or will that fall on a 3rd party solution?

Very, very nice! Thanks Jim, Jarred and the entire Red Team.

4 of the REDVOLT batteries equal 1 of the RED BRICKS... 1 of the REDVOLT batteries last between 40min. and 1 hour on Epic S35.. depending on what you are doing.

Hey Jarred what where you doing to get 3 to 4 hours out of a Red Brick?
... how long does a Red Brick last on the Epic?

Man! I turn my back for a minute and look what Jim posts.

One (stupid) question Jim. Having never shot verticals with a side mounted viewfinder before, I'm guessing the back of the camera (Redmote?) has enough clearance for my neanderthal forehead in portrait mode? Cannot wait to get my hands on one of these things.

Congratulations Jim, it’s the beginning of the Seconds Generation of Red Cameras! All the modules and possible configurations are yet to come, but you have grown exponentially. Congratulations to ALL of the RED team. I think we’re looking at the tip off the Iceberg. I know that I won’t be eligible for an X model, but who cares; the Epic S35 will be far greater and better than any Red One can possibly be. When the FF35 comes out we will all be on equal footing again, or whatever improvements you all do to the S35 Camera Sensor (if any). Now it will be improvements to individual modules at a time, and new modules yet to be invented. Great, great job!

So, assuming I have my bearings straight, we are looking at a shot of the BACK/RIGHT side of the I/O module. It also appears that the shot of the battery module is a FRONT/LEFT perspective.

I notice that the back of the I/O module has 8 additional electrical contacts above the common hi-density pin connector (the "Spine", hehe). If memory servers, these are for the redmote, which I recall having mating contact points for, rather than a spine connector.

But there are not a set of similar contacts on the front of the battery module. Does this imply that the these contacts are not passed thru module-to-module? If so, does the spine carry that data and each module breaks those contacts out to support a Redmote, or are there limits on how the modules can be ordered?

Also are those buttons on the front lower part of the bomb EVF?

Very cool to see the "other side" of the batt module with the additional 2 batteries.

I like the RED Gunner. Looks like a great way to configure a balanced ENG/EFP shoulder rig.
Be interesting to see what kind of batteries and/or storage modules it will support.

PS: Thanks for all the great camera porn, can't wait to get my hands on the real thing.

Jim/RED Team: this is sweet.

? Will the 645 be the exact same form factor (besides the mount) with the different sensor or does it require a larger case? If so approx how much bigger? As usual thinking underwater. And now you have me thinking IMAX (REDMAX?) 9K

Awesome Compact Design.
With the solid state engineering (everything being so close and somewhat heat generating). Does a mini-airconditioner or cooling unit come as an option?

Be Freaking Great if it did.

It looks like it could be a little tricky connecting and disconnecting BNC connectors in that small space. Any chance it could be slightly larger so you can get your fingers in?

My first thought looking at that, as well. BNC's can be a pain if they're too close to something else (like the well they're in, or each other) and you can't get a good grip to twist them.

We are making suggestions, but at least BNCs are the right connectors to use!!! Don't be tempted to use something non-standard just because they are easier to plug in.

Staggering the bncs, instead of having them parallel to camera top, would allow for a neater grouping of cables when using right angle connectors.
Right angle connectors reduce the distance cables protrude from the camera and tend to reduce cable failures.
The same goes for audio and the other cables, although there isn't room to stagger all the connectors and use them all with right angle connectors.

What a thing to wake up to... I want that EVF yesterday.
