Have micro sd card, red one build 17x, mac or pc (many of each)

what do I need to do to upgrade the firmware? I've searched high and low through the other posts but can't find anything related using what I would think are reasonable key words (firmware upgrade red one micro sd).

I can't find anywhere on the camera to format the SD card only drives or CF cards. I've tried formatting the card on my mac and on my pc and putting the upgrade folder on the sd card as instructed to in the readme file, still no luck.

If somone could answer this post as if they were talking to someone that had never done it before it would be appreciated.

Yes, I've read that page, multiple times and page 92 as well that talks about formatting everything but a micro sd card.

Is it just not possible to upgrade using a micro sd card? If so, what the heck is the point of having that slot on the camera?

dont worry about formatting the SD card, just erase all the data and follow the upgrade instructions...but its best to use the CF card
The SD card is used for saving looks and user files

OK, so it can't be a card bigger than 1GB, and can't be formatted in fat32 or NTFS.

I've always upgraded with a SD card. Camera must have no other storage system plugged in, like CF or HD... Just dump the content of the firmware file on the card with nothing else on it (instructions are in the firmware folder on how to upgrade, READ IT as you might have to upgrade to a previous intermediary version sometimes before the very last one or it won't work, like you can't upgrade from b16 to b20, you have to go through b18 first... That sort of thing...).

Yes I heard it was easier with CF, some people have hard time with SD sometimes apparently... Doesn't matter, it's the same...

Copy ONLY the folder called "upgrade" that's INTO the Firmware folder you downloaded from Red's website onto the CF card. Do not put the entire firmware folder on the card, just the "upgrade" one in it... Don't touch it, it contains the necessary file in it...

The ABC:

* Unmount the CF card or SD card from your computer (drag to the trash can).

* Ensure your camera is powered down (that is, put the card in the camera slot BEFORE you switch the camera on).

* Insert the CF card into the CF card slot (or the SD card into the SD card slot) of your RED-ONE camera.

* Power up the camera.

* After booting up, the camera rear status display will report "New Firmware" and the RED-EVF or RED-LCD will report "A software update is available for your system".

* Press the joystick to confirm, and the rear status display will report "Upgrading"

* During the upgrade process, a blue progress bar will be visible on the RED-EVF or RED-LCD. This bar will continue for the duration of the upgrade, which is approximately five minutes.

* At the end of the upgrade process, the rear status display will report "O.K. Cycle Power" The RED-LCD or RED-LCD will report "Upgrade complete. Power cycle the camera to continue."

* Power down the camera, wait five seconds, then power up the camera again and there you are, new upgraded firmware ready to use.

Good luck...
