Hi all. . .

Okay. . . this one is going to sound strange, but 'tis true.

Over the past couple of days (and since moving to Build 21, although I don't know if that is proximate or causative, I have noticed two very fine (I'd guess one pixel wide) lines in the upper right hand portion of my RED monitor and my EVF.

Now, here's the strange part. The line are there when shooting. They are there on camera playback. But they don't seem to appear in my shot footage!

What on earth is going on here? At first I thought I had a CMOS issue, but now I'm not so sure. Indeed, the fact that I can't find these lines on the recorded image leads me to believe that it might be some sort of strange software glitch.

Has anyone else seen these little lines? Like I said, they are extremely fine and appear about 1/2 an inch long on my 5.6" monitor. They are black as black, BUT are invisible in the gray look-around band around the image. But, as I do the playback on the camera, there they are. Except I can't find them in the recording when played on my computer.

Very strange.

Any ideas?

Stephen

Stephen, please post a support ticket if you have not already. If you can capture the effect, even better.

I shall do so, Brent.

I'm not sure how to capture it, though, as it appears only on the EVF and the LCD. It's not in the footage, and it's not an LCD or EVF defect, as it is in both screens in the identical position.

It's very strange.

I just experienced the same issue. Two black lines.
I'll try to capture it.

its in the monitors only, not in recordings...Sean is aware of this and has images.

When you go from 4.5K down to a lower resolution the lines appear. However if the camera is booted up on 4K 16:9 you should not see the lines, only when moving from 4.5K down to a lower res.

I can confirm two black lines. After build 21 upgrade. Strange thing is that the lines appear even on the SDI monitor. But not on the material thank god :)

Same phenomenon here after upgrade to build 21.0.0. I noticed it on set whilst prepping the camera and shot a couple of tests to make sure it wasn't in the footage. I also did another black shading (I thought maybe I'd screwed the first up to cause it) but it didn't change anything.

I switched to 2K and the lines stayed in the same place on the monitor, so I figured it had to be a monitoring bug only and proceeded with the shoot as normal. The footage is perfect so it's some sort of monitoring bug that has crept into build 21.0.0.

For me it showed up as one longer line and one shorter line. No photos sorry.

Camera #378 with Rev.B audio board and using the Birger mount with Canon EF-S 17-55 f2.8 IS USM lens. All firmware was latest versions. I didn't use the Impero on that shoot.

I have the same issue also. Noticed it on Monday's shoot. Followed the same procedure as Paul, for the same reason. Not in footage, which is always a plus.

Black dots / lines in monitor path.

We see it, it's affecting the monitor path only in Build 21 Beta firmware.

If you see this too, can you please send RED tech support your camera LOG file?

It doesn't appear in the .R3D footage i.e its not recorded.

Hi all,

here's a picture illustrating it (look top right of recorded viewing area):

This photo also shows a new visual bug that has crept in with build 21.0.0 - the infinity symbol has changed font and now overlaps into the recorded viewing area. Doesn't affect anything of course, but I figured it better to point it out now so it can be fixed for the release build. I wonder if the two bugs aren't related in some way?

I also seen it on all 4 cameras we are using on the feature we are working on. Once I realized it wasn't on the recorded files I realized it was probably a bug.

This came up on my camera today while it was out on a rental. Can anyone confirm that the firmware released today rectifies this problem?

Just brought home a brand new 7" Red LCD and noticed the same issue (B21). Kinda relieved that it's not on the footage or the monitor itself. In addition to the lines described above, when switching to black screen there are two bright pixels that appear along one of the lines and that look like dead pixels. :(

I took the pics to post here but then I noticed that the thread already exists (made me feel better). Here they are anyways:

Please note: this problem is resolved in Beta 21 V21.2.1, available at the RED technical support site..
