Just read this:

Since Apples DVD studio Pro hasn´t been upgraded in like 3 years and we still don´t have real BluRay in it, could this be what Apples been working on?

We all know that filebased distribution is going to be the thing in the future, BluRay is just a middlestop. Divx already have a package type of distribution. QuickTime could have been the way but Apple is smarter than that. Web technology is on the move and I guess this is the way we will be sending out files in the coming years.

But how? I wouldn´t be suprised if Apple launched a distribution/packaging app that has the GUI of something like DVD studio Pro but outputs these webpackages that you can either upload to MobileMe or email to clients or simply distribute via iTunes. It can be played thru a webbrowser, iTunes, Keynote or any other WebKit-supporting app.
Adobe has sort of this feature in Encore, but it outputs in Flash...

What do you think? I would like this so much, no more DVD disc or physical media. Easy, HD, beautiful. Thank you Apple for skipping to the future... or so.... just get the app out.

I've just got an email from the iPhone developers for the HTTP Live Stream thing, so I think they are really going for this whole none physical media idea,

Placing this into iTunes store etc. would really be a big boost, they should honestly have a screening process similar to that of the app store for films from independent studios and filmmakers, would be a great help to the whole community especially if the app comes real!

I can see though that it will take quite sometime for this to happen, possibly by the time they hit FCS 5 they will have something solid that is ready to go with the least amount of hitches possible...right now...I think there maybe too many bugs in such a system, they will probably wait for the Blu-Ray thing to pan out, its said iTunes allows Blu-Ray now, just there is no Blu-Ray drive allocated from Apple for even their towers...maybe summer '10 we shall see :)

Physical media is a necessity regardless of how efficient filebased distribution is. Beyond physical media we need real archiving solutions! The digital world is a blessing and a curse at the same time.

And as far as DVD Studio Pro goes, two words: Adobe Encore.

I think we are looking a decade away for this to be fully realized. There is a large part of the consumer base out there still want something they can hold in exchange for their money. Now matter what the tech. advancement the consumer is king, and that's what should drive your buisness model.

So blueray is here to stay, the price is going to drop big time, the day of the 5 dollar blueray bin we'll be way before the download depot.

Agree!

No need to wait for Apple anymore, if they wanted to support Blu-ray they would have done it two years ago. I don´t think they ever will beyond the limited support built into the newly released version of FCP.

Apple may be right in the long run, but I want to support blu-ray, and it´s growing very rapidly.
