  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Do you think safe to do new Snow Lepard update (Sept 11th)?

Let's discuss here.

well, it has blown up one of my 5 computers :emote_head_explode: - has to go to the shop and will probably need a complete clean install of everything.

been on the phone for hours with an Apple engineer and no fixes or tricks are working. very frustrating.

i have had success installing on two others (both laptops), but since this is my fastest, primary machine (the one with the Rocket card installed...), it's a real hindrance to my business. i have not bothered to try installing it on any of the other Mac towers, yet, because I can't afford to have any other machines incapacitated.

the issue is that the machine no longer authenticates...i'm not alone, here is a thread on the issue: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=774615

and the Apple engineer with whom I have been speaking told me that this is a known issue, but they don't know how to fix it. so once i get the whole thing backed up, it is off to the shop for Applecare....

this has been the worst upgrade experience. ever.

if anyone has any helpful suggestions on fixing it, i'm way open!

Alex, there was an update for Snow Leopard release yesterday.

Meryem, I don't seem to run into much problems besides the flash on Safari seems to run significantly slower. Can you do the reset password thing by booting with the Snow Leopard disc and clear?

Safe here...

sweet!
how do i go about getting it, i ordered an earlier disk with snow leopard from apple. do i install the old one and do an update then (kinda scary with all the feedback to date) or there are other ways?

thanks!

Same question, I have the dvd that apple sent out with original too.

The update is provided online, so you can update using the "software update".

It's ok, apart from not being able to print to my laser printer...

yes, I tried that without results...it changes the password, but it still doesn't bring up the authentication dialog box...thanks for the suggestion, though, i am going to have to bite the bullet and shuttle this thing off to the shop...

Meryem,

I'm assuming you did the upgrade and not a fresh reinstall of everything? I also attempted an upgrade on a Mac Pro and it would not properly boot to the login screen after that. I worked with it for a couple hours and gave up. Just wiped the drive and did the fresh install. All is working well on that system now. I'll probably do fresh installs of SL onto the other Mac Pro and my MBP this next week.

Hope you made a backup of your HDD before the upgrade.... If not, all the data should still be there, but this can be a real pain if you didn't deactivate certain registrations before the upgrade, like Photoshop, iTunes authorization, etc..
