Pre-ordered the $7000 Leica M9 after playing with it at Samy's today:mad2:

18MP FF sensor that's still noisier than Nikon or Canon at high ISO (but not by much):Check
NO video mode to speak of: Check
Bitchen Gun metal grey finish: Check
Quiet as an SBD fart: Check
Probably the best lenses ever made for a camera system: Check
Hand built to extraordinary tolerances by Germans who may be magic elves:Check
The camera I've been waiting for since I first heard about digital photography 16 years ago: CHECK!

On a more cinematic note while I was in Samy's camera in Hollywood a fax came in from Solms Germany (Leica HQ) to put in a order for none other than Roger Deakins. The salesman knew I was in film and asked me who the hell he was.

dont worry!

Get IMS for RED + Leica-M IMS mount and you are ready.

Also in that case forget about the R1 warranty and Epic upgrade, but still you'll get M-X upgrade when you pay for it.

Then you are fine.

Also tell this to Roger when ever you meet him.

Roger D. is waiting for ARRI new digital camera just because he wants to have optical viewfinder on his camera (and many other world famous DPs and cinematographers).

Also tell this optical viewfinder story to Jim.

Oh if only it shot video.... I've come to be a great lover of the CCD in the course of wading through CMOS generated imagery....
