  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Last fall we developed a LUT for the (then) current Color and Wraptor plugin for Compressor.

We have good results with wraptor still, following these steps:

we get full use of all 8 cores.
Sweet & Cheap, this worked really well:

Workflow isn't that mysterious...
1. Import into Color any way you want.

Using RAW in Color (pre 1.5 which I will test later this week) is NOT recomended in any way. (Tooo many reasons to do in a short post, but half debayer is only the start, the most important part is that you cannot lock the RedRoom onelight, whatever you do in primary, secondary and primary out affects the results like it would in RC with raw. Thus: Use a 444 10-or-higher bits RGB format...) A 4:4:4 10 bit log thing is a much better startingpoint, even log prores HQ.... But you have what you have. Just stay out of 8-bit'ish stuff if you can, and put it into log 10 bit if your source is 8 bit.

2. Use the LUT as a displaylut and grade. This LUT takes into account gamma/tint/hue shifts that are introduced at different stages in the FCP (fucked up) colorworkflow as of FCS 6 (Not tested with 7 yet, but I guess that untill Snow Leopard, that will still be the case...)

3. Render out AJA 10bit (Without the LUT of course...) and send to FCP -

4. Send to compressor/wraptor.

I am uploading a test done with this lut to:
http://www.byacserv2.com/dcp/lut_v09.zip

It will be up in a couple of hours.

We did extensiv a/b testing with charts and live images and eventually became quite happy with the results.

Now we have to start over again with FCS 7 and Easy DCP...

Anyhow.
If you dig it, please use it (and credit me if you feel it appropriate)

If you hate it or dislike it, please - if you manage - tell me why.
If you REALLY dig it and feel that it saves you time, cash and improves your product, please contact me @

and we can discuss how I can drink more single malt whiskies...

The LUT can be found here:
http://byacserv.com/vulture/wraptor_AJA_LUT.mga
(rightclick to download...)

Hope this is of some help

Currently I am working on luts for FCS3/Snow leopard/Easy DCP

Cheers!

BTW, it is NOT as easy as reversing the settings of the LUT to go from an RGB master to DCP... Lots of technical reasons for that, but don't assume... -;)

AND REMEMBER:
Your system is different than mine...
BUT try to work from a calibrated monitor.
That is NOT an easy task going FCP 6/Color 1pre 1.5, as they use different monitor-gamma as reference, even over SDI...

But the LUT is still a pretty good starting point, me thinks...

Cheers again!

Edited so that the DCP package is downloadable... -:)

I've put this into PD as there is a new Color & Snow Leopard out there, but this is still the cheapest way for "do-it-yourself" DCP's
