Telescoping Tripod

[Andrew McCarrick]

I'm looking for a place to rent one of these things; And I can't find them anywhere. Can somebody give me the correct term for it and if you know of a rental house that has them...

it's on the left of the screen of this youtube video. You can see it increase in height at 1:10. Basically a vertical only jib.

Do you mean a pedistal like this?

Do you mean a pedistal like this?

Yes and no... right idea, but it's needs to be able to go further up then that.

What I'm looking for is on the left of the screen, on the stage.

a super-upper-panther?? ;-)

That looks to me like the telescoping masts they put on live trucks.

Many names for this and many types;
"pneumatic telescopic mast"
"Hydraulic Telescoping Towers" etc.etc.

That particular used in the Hard Rock Calling 2009/Live Nation concerts in Hyde Park is possably owned by; Link> "XL Video Gets Festive In The Park" /Link> http://www.xlvideo.com/UK.aspx or Link>Visions.

So it's basically a mast, with a remote head, mounted onto some kind of wheel system, because I'm pretty sure it had wheels on it, when I saw it on Palladia.

Which are air-powered, and not usually very smooth (their job is to simply go up, down, and stop, not hold camera gear). It's the same mechanism, and likely it's also pneumatic, but it much smaller, and probably specialized.

[Stefan Christou]

I think there are jibs out there that can do this better (faster, smoother). Unless space is a concern?

That's the system, don't know if they make a smaller version but it looks very similar - and it's in the UK.

Here's a much better view of it:
