Guys,

I've gotten the dreaded message that disables file recognition inside CS4 to any and all footage types, not just RED but XDCAM, MTS, etc, etc. I know this has happened to several users here while installing updated versions of the Adobe RED plug-in and/or Redcine. It happened to me after uninstalling a non responsive Encore and reinstalling it. What can be done? I've run all current updates on all CS4 programs and don't want to reinstall the whole CS4 suite.

ya try uninstalling all prefs....not a real expert on locations but it is very detailed in the posts by people having trouble with the red plug in.

hopefully that works....
sometimes that stupid windows restore thing can work as well

good luck

Hey everybody.

I got the same error message, from "one second to another". R3D-Files cannot be opened / imported in Premiere CS4.

I got the CS4 Production Premium-Suite this morning, installed it (on Intel-MAC), updated it and installed the RED-Plugin. At first everyhing worked fine. I could open the files in the media manager and edit with them.

Then I installed RedCine, Red Alert and the Quicktime PlugIn, and now Premiere does not open or playback the files anymore. After Effects does.

Can anyone help please? What to do?
Thx, Michael

//EDIT: Update:
Well, I tried the whole afternoon, but it still doesn`t work. I removed Red Quicktime Plugin, RedCine and Red Alert, but nothing helped. In the end we removed Creative Suite CS4 completely, but even this doesn`t help. It`s even more difficult: now After Effects refuses to update to the needed version and CS4 notices a lot of errors during installation. Seems the only solution is to completely build up a new system... :-(
Is this a known problem?
Does anyhone have an idea where these problems came from, e.g. installing RedCine or Red Alert...?

WTF... This just happened to me now.

I guess I'll try to surgically remove all my prefs. I'm thinking that removing CS4 isn't going to fix it because the basic uninstall probably doesn't remove all the necessary prefs. This sucks.

Don't know what causes it. It worked two days ago and even loading up an old project yesterday. Just went to create a new project about 10 minutes ago and couldn't bring in my R3D files.

...I'm off to figure it out. Glad to see there's already a thread about this. Then again, it sucks that this problem exists.

This was in the plugin log...
Loading /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS4/MediaCore/ImporterRED.bundle
There was an error loading /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS4/MediaCore/ImporterRED.bundle from the plugin cache
The registry key will be deleted and the plugin will be loaded from disk.
Load from disk failed. This plugin cannot be used.

Deleting localized prefs didn't work. Going to dig deeper.

OK, got mine working again. This is under OSX.

Close out of all applications.

Drag the following folders to the trash:
~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Premiere Pro/4.0
~/Library/Caches/com.adobe.AdobePremierePro
~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Premiere Pro/4.0

Drag these files to the trash:
~/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Premiere Pro.4.0.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.REDPPro3.RedServer.plist

Empty trash.

Restart.

Run the RED CS4 Installer.

Load Premiere. You should be able to import and use R3D files again.

Don't know if all steps are necessary, but this worked. Removing the plist for the RED plugin and restart / reinstall of the RED plugin are definitely necessary.

Just noticed that if one format plug-in gets screwed up, then others will fall apart. I attempted to import a folder full of TIFF files and it gave me the unsupported or corrupt format error. After that I couldn't load R3D files again. So now I have to track down why it's not liking TIFF files and fix that too.

I love CS4, but the bugs really piss me off. With the next update (if it ever happens) I'd like this to be fixed as well as the ability to render to most formats from AME without the stupid thing crashing.

I use CS4 on both a mac and PC, but I have yet to come across this problem on the windows side. On the mac I've had it happen twice. Never really figured out what the problem was, ended up just reinstalling, but still a pain in the ass. Windows side has been rock solid for both after effects and Premiere. Has anybody actually had this same thing happen on a PC?

Yes. Ever since installing CS4 on my Windows XP system, I have not been able to import ootage of any file format without that error message, and/or without it crashing. That's including after uninstalling and reinstalling. Still trying to resolve the issue. I'll let you know if I find out anything.

Jeff,

Have I have this same problem on one machine -- it's running Snow Leopard, but not on my laptop that's running 10.5. I tried your fix and it hasn't done the trick. Has this continued working for you?
