Excellent....

I have had a deposit on a RedRocket from the first day but haven't taken delivery of it yet. I'm not sure where to look for info as to what the current status is for RedRocket functionality.

I was under the impression that I could use it within Final Cut to play 4k scaled to 2k in realtime. Is that possible yet? Or is it mostly useful for transcoding at this stage?

Sorry to ask here, but there isn't any real info on red.com and I couldn't seem to find this info here on reduser.

:coolgleamA:

Only application can utilize RED ROCKET is ROCKETcine-X at this exact point.

FWIW, I see the warning saying it will only work with the 16x PCIe slot, but it is working in the 4x slot for us, as the AJA Kona LHe demands and only works in the 16x slot.

Deanan, how much rendering power/speed am I losing by being in the 4x slot? Have you guys tested this out?

Thanks.

Kevin

The main impact will be playing back 4k images into the computer and out the graphics card or to dpx. Since dpx is not a realtime requirement, it's not as big an impact. Playing back 2k so has seemed fine at 2k.

Thanks for that info. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer!

This may sound strange but having the RED ROCKET already and showing people what it can do already helps my business so I'm happy to step forward along with the daily development of RED ROCKET.

So, depending on the business you have, the current state even helps your business, but I do understand your decision:cheers2:

Doesn't sound strange to me as I've had the same experience! The other day I did a green screen shoot. During the shoot I brought in the drive, ran the clip through Rocket Cine X in real time to create a hi def uncompressed QT, then keyed it beautifully in After Effects, all in the space of 5 minutes.

Client very impressed.

You guys (JimH,Kaku, and everyone else sending in suggestions/bugreports) have been extremely valuable in getting rocketcine evolved quickly. Still got lots of features coming soon too.

Thanks Deanan

I'm learning the value of RED Rocket™™. Your hard work on implementing it's ability is much appreciated. The good thing is knowing it will be integrated into other software like FCP and PP,AE soon. At least thats my understanding.

For now it is great for converting and live view in RT.

My pleasure Deanan.

I might have a surprise job with RED Rocket™ tomorrow. Hope the current state cut through it.

Rocketcine goes unresponsive

Rocketcine goes unresponsive

Hi everyone,

I've just installed the card and the driver/firmware following the instruction. The Rocketcine opens although it says "the card is connected in 4x slot", which I will have to figure out later. After it loads up, I open a clip and try to drag my mouse through the timeline... then it hangs with that beach ball.

As a note, I've downloaded the driver and firmware about two hours ago, so my system's up-to-date.

Here's my system:

Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number of Processors: 2
Total Number of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per processor): 12MB
Memory: 10GB
Bus Speed: 1.6GHz
Boot Rom Version: MP31.006C.B05

Graphics Card: ATI 3870
HDD: One 10,000rpm Boot Drive with Three 1.5TB 7,200rpm Drives in RAID 0

I'd love to figure this out by myself when time allows, but not now. I just want to see its glory before I have to get in a session in a couple of hours :)

Thanks in advance,

Nook,

I have something similar but mine is working.
It's probably the best to get in touch with deanan at red dot com he will guide you to go through the procedure.

Just to clarify my configuration;
My RR is installed right above the graphic card. Fiber channel card next then ATTO R380 RAID card.

Hi Nook,

Can you email me directly (deanan @ red) and we can help figure out what's happening.

Thanks,

Deanan

Problem Solved

Problem Solved

Hi,

Thanks for your kind words Kaku and Deanan. I noticed the Rocket Icon that I had to set up properly. Now I finished my job for the day, I played a bit with it, and it's working good :) I'm getting about 2:1 render out speed while my RR's in the PCI-E Slot 2. This is for Full-Debayer render out to 1080 ProRes HQ Quicktime. I guess the bottle neck for me is now my Raid and the Slot configuration. What do ya all think? Should I move up my 3870 to the second slot so that I can have the RR in the first slot? What will I gain/lose?

Even with the current speed I'm getting, I'm super excited to see the picture on my Cine-Tal 42" through the Dual HD-SDI. Simply stunning!

Oh one question, is there a way to export with "Fit Height" option? I see only "Fit Width" and "Stretch W/H". I need to export some 2:1 shot footage to 16:9. Any ideas how to go about it?

I would also like to know this.....

And I also have just updated to the newest versions of RocketCine-X (Build 661), Rocket driver (REDrocket_Driver_OSX_v1.0.7.1) and Rocket firmware (REDrocket_OSX_firmware_1.1.4.14).

When I launch RocketCine-X now, an error message appears that says "Your RedRocket is in a 4x PCI-Ex Lane. The RedRocket requires an 8x lane to perform properly." my rocket is in a X16 lane however on my mac, in Lane 1.

Any help would be appreciated.....

We're looking into that at the moment. Apparently certain macpros (3,1 seems the most suspect) seems to have some irregularities in the pci-e implementation. We're working on a solution but for now if that happens, shutdown, wait a minute, and reboot. It usually fixes the problem.

x8 is required mostly if you're moving around full resolution 4k frames. For working with frames scaled to half/2k/hd, x4 is fine.
