Hi Guys,

I was looking at the O'Connor 1030S. Any reviews you care to share?

Whats the difference between the 1030s and the 1030HDs?

Tilt range on the "S" models is +/- 60° On the 1030HD and regular 1030 (no "S"), the tilt range is +/- 90°, but it has a lighter load capacity.

so you're saying 1030HDs and 1030s are both only +/-60?

I have the 1030HD head and consider it the best head in its weight class (under 6 pounds). Have you picked up a 2575? Its a frakkin' anchor, but it can take a lot more load than any version of the 1030 without even trying.

Ultimately you have to think about the style of shooting that you do and what suits that way of working. If you regularly load up your rig with large zooms, MB and FF, etc then even the "S" version of the 1030 will get over matched pretty easily.

In a perfect world I would love to see O'Connor market a 10 pound head with legitimate 65 pound capacity, I'd buy one in a minute. FWIW the action on the 1030 is sweet and if you keep the CoG low and the AKS under control its a fine choice for a RedOne package.

I have 3 1030s. They are awesome! The HD versions have less drag. I had one then turned it in for a non-HD. I like more drag.

I use my 1030S heads with my red with primes all the time. They are great match for run-and-gun shooting. I move up to one of my larger heads (Ocon. 120 or C40) when my big zooms work.

Prost,
Rich
