  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

18-85 Carrying Case, Please share your solution.

Ketch, I second the Innerspace case. In fact you can purchase it through Abel along with your other gear if you like.

You can order it from us in any way you wish.

Great, then Black it is. This way it will be a match with the RED Black case for the RPP's, unless I decide that it becomes too heavy for my broken leg, and then go with smaller Innerspace cases for the RPP's as well, 2 or 3 per case.

An other Question Mitch, do you think is possible to have Innerspace fittings for the Storm cases? I do travel in water a lot and or in the rain, so the water tight Storm cases would be a better fit possibly?

ciao

It is certainly possible but we would have to work it out with Innerspace. These would be custom builds so it might add a bit to the cost of the case and the time to get them made. Nothing huge just something of which to be aware.

Ketch,
I recently purchased the 18-85 case, the 6-hole
lens case for RPP (not the black RED
version), a custom case for the 300
and the 50-150, red camera case,
and RED AKS case and a Mitchell 2 geared
head case all from Innerspace.
This is the way to go. .louis is very intuitive and
asks the right questions. I too would like
custom inserts for my storm cases fior boatwork
since the ones I made just are not perfect.
count me in on a group buy!

Hey Frank,

early today as soon as Ben posted the link I contacted Louis form Innerspace, explaining the need to retrofit my Storm cases for all weather protection needed, as well as their cases.

Louis has responded with overwhelmingly precise and detailed info about what I can do with his cutouts, and how they can make anything, so I definitely will be doing business with them.

I checked this thread and found Mitch answer about Abel selling their product, and I ask him to see if Storm cases could be fiited, still been absolutely uncompromising to the safety of the lenses, as I know there needs to be a certain amount of protection, and I didn't even realized that I had an email from Louis, explaining how and what He can do.

Will know more about in the morning after Louis checks out some dimensions I sent him.

If this can work I'll be fitting all my Storm cases with their Cutouts, if not I'll be buying all their cases fitted to my needs, but only if they can add a protective all weather ring Storm/Pelican style to protect the gear transported under the rain, dust gust etc.

Ketch, you are certainly free to deal directly with Innerspace or through us. We are happy to assist in any way. Often going direct to a manufacturer can be more expensive than through a dealer, but then two-stepping a process may not be worth it either. It is up to you and we are happy to serve.

Thanks Mitch, appreciate the support, I had contacted Louis from Ben's link, and working with him directly as to find the best solution for each individual case design, standard cases will not do for me, I will be spending substantial quantities of money of creating a full working production company, I don't rent equipment, and I likely will not rent out either, but if I haver do rent out my gear, then even more important is to have perfectly design cases to protect my investment.

I will definitely keep you posted on what is going on, and see if we can work together on this one as well.

EDIT: Mitch, I'm working directly with Louis @ INNERSPACE for the design and weather proofing of the cases a LA Pelican/Storm, will know details in the next few days, a deal will be offered for all cases via Abel.

Okay,

I'm working on two different solutions with Louis of Innerspace:

One is to have a Innerspace Case sealed by a special processing and customization of each individual case to offer protection against the environment, water, dust etc, pelican/Storm style.

Two is to have the same exact foam cutouts to fit the STORM iM 2720.

I like to hear you guys out, the cheaper version will be the Storm/Innerspace Cutout, I think in the $300's and the Innerspace in the $500+, will confirm Innerspace customized case once final cost of weather proofing is given.

Both will be available choices from Abel, once Louis finishes the designs and customizations, you can choose the color of each case.

BUt please give me your opinions, on the carry option of one vs. the other and why.

Thanks

Well here is one reason for the ATA case.
Turned my head for a minute and when
I turned back our well wishing, very tired
and quite portley UPM thought my temporary
storm case was a good chair!!!
Almost a disaster. I use storm cases for beach and
water work and the ATA cases work the best a majority
of thr time. Thanks for staying on
this Ketch I can't wait to get the pelican
cutouts as well

People stand on cases all the time. A Storm case (or Pelican or whatever extrusion type) will bow when pressure is applied to the center as opposed to the edges. This can put your lenses in danger.

If you like the option of wheels, Innerspace can do this on their ATA cases as well. But be warned that this might not be the best choice for glass as a rolling case in invariably rolled across uneven surfaces causing excessive vibration which can easily knock stuff out of whack within lenses.

Welcome Frank, and yes as Mitch says the only reason I'm also outfitting a cut out for the Storm case, is only to carry it on the beach, under the rain and extreme situation, near rivers trips to Alaska etc., never do I roll gear on willed cases, for that I use a Dolly with Pneumatic wheels!! On the iM 2720 Storm case the wheel kit will be removed, but this is the smallest case that the cut out for the 18-85 and RED 300mm PRO will fit.
I will also most definitely have the Innerspace customized and sealed case, as this are the only ones to truly offer the best possible protection on set and elsewhere, if Louis is successful in customizing a full sealed weather proofing Innnerspace case, then there will be little to no need for any Storm/Pellican with cutouts, which I'm sure will do.

Also I usually don't like to have the lenses in particular be off set even during carrying, its always best to carry and store the gear in the outfitted position.

Mitch, Louis will be contacting you personally, to set both options up with Abel.

ciao
