I have tried to use my RED 16GB CF cards in my 5D2 for timelapse and the camera can't format the cards. I've tired using the disk utility to format the card thinking that it didn't like to see Red footage on the card or the Red folder. Still it won't work in the 5D2. I also keep getting a Error 80 when trying to format the card. Funny thing is that the cards work just fine in the Canon 40D and all my RED 8GB CF Cards work fine in both the 5D2 & the 40D. Anybody know why the 5D2 doesn't like the RED 16GB cards?

What if you format them in the 40D, then reformat them in the 5D2?

BTW, I can recommend Pretec cards. http://www.ptiglobalusa.com

The cards are of made of metal, rather than plastic. Amazing capacities and speeds. Check this shit out:

I might have to get a couple of those because just shooting with the 8GB RED cards just doesn't cut it. I have tried formatting the cards in the 40D and then putting them into the 5D2. But it still doesn't like them. Its weird because those cards are really fast and the 5D2 should like that but it doesn't.

There's a firmware update (one after the manual mode firmware update) for the camera that talks about CF card compatibility. I wondered if anyone had tried to use the 16gb Red cards after installing that update? Firmware version is 1.1.1

For the 5D2, I highly recommend the 16GB Sandisk Extreme IVs, plus the Pretecs. For saving money, I recommend the Transcend 32GB x133 cards, which can shoot with 3-second intervals, I think. Maybe 4-second. The only drawback to those cards aside from shooting speeds is that the downloads to a Nexto or to your PC take a long-ass time. But they are dirt cheap, and so far, very reliable for me.

Once those 32GB x667 Pretec cards come down in price, I will get some. Pretec was planning a 100GB x667 card as well, though it seems to be delayed.

Yeah that sounds promising but firmware 1.1.1 isn't out yet is it?

I saw the prices of those 32GB cards and I'm going to have to wait on those are well. They cost as much as the 16GB RED CF cards. I just don't understand why the 16GB RED cards don't work in the 5D2. They are very fast and should be smokin in the 5D2. Hope that 1.1.1 firmware fixes it.

Say Tom, what speed on these cards do you need to shoot HD on the 5DMII?

Do they make any Cf Cards with buffers?

It seems like overkill to have a full 32GB super fast card when you're probably only going to need a few hundred MBs on burst mode. I guess there isn't much space in a CF Card to pack in a small cache controller. :D

Ooooh.

Now that IS interesting. I'll be testing that to see if it has the sustained glitch-free data rate needed to work in RED, when it appears!
