Why is the front diameter 116mm instead of being just 2mm smaller - 114 is the same size as many other lenses.

Also, why isn't there a support socket on the thing?

Sigh. Talk about your Buyer's Remorse...

The front diameter issue isn't a big deal, IMO... Plenty easy enough to cut a delrin ring or piece of neoprene to fit a mattebox. The integrated lens support issue is a real puzzle, though. It keeps getting brought up around here.

These issues, mostly the lack of support receptacle, almost had me sending the lens back when I first received it. But it performs great, it's a really nice lens. I use the Zacuto lens support with it and it works fine. Kinda a pricey addition that shouldn't be necessary, but is what it is I guess.

Matte Duclos said he is currently developing the lens cradle support (340.00 is what the 18-85 ring costs) which works with the ARRI LS-9. I also don't like the lens cap so please Matte we need you.

Cail, why not save some $ and get the non-Pro 300mm that has standard 117mm and comes with a support bracket? I have one for sale along with 117 mm reduction ring for LMB-5 and a set of internal ND filters. Optically those lenses are the same.

Toooo laaaaate! (She cried...)

Perhaps the pro is 117mm, I wasn't particularly precise with the measuring tape on Friday - either way the house doesn't have any rings that size so the shoot next week has a neoprene in the kit.

How much did the internal filters set you back? I'm trying to source some locally...

I just measured mine (300mm Pro) and I come up with 117mm diameter. I just use neoprene with my 300 and mattebox -- actually I don't tend to use a mattebox with it much at all, only if I need to put a hot mirror in front of it.

I'm using drop-in ND filters from Hoya and they seem to work just fine. I don't remember which ones, either Schneider or Tiffen, were too thick and would not fit into the drop-in slot.

I have been meaning to get drop in filters for my original (non-pro) Red 300mm but never have. It would be great to leave the MB20 behind when trekking.

Specific manufacturers/model numbers or other reference for any filters that definitely will or will not fit would be appreciated. In addition, any vendor picks/pans.

Cheers - #19

Hi Jeff,

Thanks,
Emmanuel
