I received an e-mail from Silverado about the soon to be shipping Gearnex. They offer (early reservation holders) the Mitchell plate along with either a 100mm or 150mm ball.

What sticks would you recommend for the Gearnex? Does the ball size really matter?

Luma Tech has a set of titanium
legs that look very much like the Ronford
Baker . The castings don't seem as strong
but all in all a very affordable
proffesional solution.

Hi Frank,

The 150mm would have a bigger foot print for heavier loads, such as a fully loaded Red, GearNex unit and accessories. Make sure the tripod can take the weight of your rig at it's worst, like Israeli arms with attachments too. Then add some more weight for a buffer. We are recommending that everyone should have spreaders to allow for sand bagging the heavier loads.

Hope that helps answer your question.

We have 100mm and 150mm stage Ronford Legs here. The 100mm gets used with an O'Connor 1030 when the set up is needed to be light wieght. The O'Connor head is quite tall and tends to flex the 100m bowl and doesnt really suit larger and heavier Red set ups. I think it may be better with a shorter head. If you need to opt for one then go with the 150mm. The heavy weight Sachtler legs are very good.
