I think this is kind of silly. You will need darkness to see things well, and a big white area to project it. Why not just use your tv or computer? The quality will be much, much better anyway.

If you are into projectors...just get a projector. If you are going to spend money on a projector, you might as well do it right.

I think cameras and phone with projector will become "all the rage" in a few years time.
"Video conference anyone?"

Have you ever taken some funny snapshots or video with your phone or "point and shoot" camera that you wanted to share with more than one person at a time?
Just project them on a white wall, a white paper (or on your white fridge :001_rolleyes:) .

Long haul flight and the in-flight entertainment isn't to your liking; just stick a white paper to the back of the seat in front of you and enjoy your own entertainment you downloaded to a memory card beforehand.

I mean; people watch TV episodes on the small screen on their mobile phone, why wouldn't they like to have the possibility to project a larger picture when the environment is appropriate? And not everyone run around with a laptop available.

I don't think picture quality will matter much; it hasn't mattered till now for most people.

640 x 480 pixel; 5-6 years ago you could hardly buy a digital HT projector with higher resolution than that.
So projecting a picture in size of anything from 1/2 A4 to 30" diagonal depending on the available surface and light condition would make many people happy enough.

An enjoyable tool and maybe a useful tool.

Bring them on!

The second they can mass produce affordable green lasers (they are working REALLY hard on it) then projectors will be in every Cell Phone and portable imaging device, as the projections will be powerful enough to work in regular conditions, laser accurate, and full RGB.
