Has anyone had problems with the battery connecting properly to the camera? It appears the metal terminals at the bottom aren't connecting completely with the charger. Can these terminal be replaced?

Thanks,

Jeremy

If it comforts you I have changed/repaired Red chargers 3--4 times, battery plates 4-5 times, and still hasn't solved the problems.
I applied to Red, they did what was need to be done in the past, which didn't solve the problems.
As for now I have 1/2 Red charger out of two. Having the chance of $500 as evaluation fees for repair and considering that a new Red charger costs $550, I am frustrating and still checking which way to go.
For sure I will consider any buying accessories from Red in the future and not place an order naively on-line like I did with the Red One.
sometimes a battery plates that will not power up the camera with the Red bricks, may do so, however, with a CityTek battery and then after sometime it will be OK even with the Red bricks.
Never operate the camera by holding the battery as connections are not good, in a minor tongue.
All these are very frustrating when you are used to switch on a Sony, Arriflex, Moviecam, Panasonic etc, and work till you drain the battery.

Abel has worked with Switronix to find workaround solutions to this. We have a replacement battery mount to fit on either the Quickplate or Cradle, Switronix's own 4-bay charger that can charge up to four RED bricks simultaneously in only four hours (with proper battery communication so that they are fully properly charged) and finally Switronix batteries that communicate with the RED One camera to display status info in the viewfinder. No matter what part is not working in your power chain for your RED One, it or your entire system can be swapped out with Switronix items instead.

Yes Switronix. Wander why Switronix can do it and Red can't. Maybe they re-wrote the bible?:wink5:

We gave up on the Red chargers and switched to the Sony BC-L70s. They work EVERY time without flashing error lights and it seems like they take a fraction of the time to time to charge. Plus the chargers aren't quite as large and are a bit more portable. But, for shore power you will still need your Red charger because the Sony only has a 4pin power output. I do believe that Ablecine makes a 4-pin to Lemo for red power cable but I haven't tried it yet. Red1 doesn't won't work with Sony Batteries but the Sony charger is far more reliable than the Red charger. We also gave up on the Red battery plates after continually sending them in for repair and having the same thing happen. Just a little bump can sometime turn the camera off this killed us a few times when the camera shut down in the middle of record and we lost valuable footage. Check out the IDX battery plates http://www.filmtools.com/idxbapl.html But, they still make one hell of a camera!

Thanks lonny dill.
Now I know what to do.

Wish I got same answer from [them].
Not mentioning a rope in the house of a hanged man.
The Origo of VFS gives a rough indication when battery is going down when you use an alternate to Red brick battery.

Yea, I bump my cam and it turns off...had 2 plates already...gave up...just living with it till I find a better plate that locks on. No that big a deal if you know about it.

Looks like alot of others have the same frustrations. I'm going to look into the Switronix stuff when I get done this shoot. I've got 5 batteries and only two are working. What a waste of money and more importantly time.

The Sony chargers work, but because they cannot electronically communicate with the RED bricks they can only use temperature and resistance to measure how much they have recharged the cells. The Switronix RED charger communicates with the batteries to make sure all cells are fully recharged. This means longer runtimes on set and long lifespan for your bricks.

The IDX plates are fine except that they cannot pass battery status info to the camera from the RED batteries. The Switronix plate can, plus it is also prewired with a cable that plugs directly into the RED One camera so no surgery is needed.

Abel does offer an XLR4 to Lemo6 power cable for the RED One. But be aware that not all chargers can spit out enough juice to properly power the RED, and when using the charger as a power supply you then cannot use it to charge batteries. At $135, you may be better off to simply buy the dedicated power supply from RED. But certainly we are happy to sell you a cable to have as a backup...

Had the same problems with the battery belt clip.
A few weeks ago, we were on a shoot. After a few takes we took a break. Then suddenly the camera did nothing... Put another battery on still nothing... then you start sweating. happily the cradle did work.

I adjusted the pins on the battery belt clip with a very small screwdriver and did bend each pin outward from the middle. This worked so far.

im having the same issues with my red batteries.. if i just lightly touch the battery the camera powers down.. NOT good at all.. whats going on?

I am just sorry that all this come out after so long time of having problems.
I am more sorry that Red refuse to admit and keep insisting that only very few had such problems.
Should be done correctly from the beginning.
When switching to Epic I will wait with the accessories to see if they are any good.

have you checked to pins of your battery?

i had my camera powering down when i moved the camera around on the tripod and i had the same issue with a rental camera when the dp grabbed the battery to pan and tilt.

kind regards,
martin

checked batteries.. they are fine.. it seems its my plate..
Which is an upgraded plate from this origional issue...

basically.. if I clamp tight on the top of the battery and the top of the plate.. the power will stay on.. the min I take my hand off of clamping down.. and lightly touch the battery.. the camera goes down.

My upgraded Plate is bad.. Ive been having this issue since my upgrade BTW.. I just havent used my own gear much since then

I suggest the switronix plate. The dual mount is plastic, and not quite as sturdy but at least their options help prevent false shutdowns.
