Cafe/Diner looking scenes

Hey guys, I am getting ready to shoot a small film in two weeks that takes place in a small cafe/diner and I am looking for other films that have scenes which take place in a modern cafe/diner. It more of a normal location--not a fancy yuppie cafe or a grease pit diner. Need it to be modern period scene. Right now the only movie I can think of is the beginning of pulp fiction in the diner. If any has an idea of other films, please post them here.

I haven't seen it, but doesn't Paul Thomas Anderson's first short film, "Cigarettes and Coffee" take place in a diner?

Honestly I'm a bit jealous; I've always wanted to shoot in a diner.

Some of this was shot in my town. Ernestine & Hazels in Memphis, TN. If you are ever there, make sure to go upstairs and play the piano. Very unusual bar.

Honestly I'm a bit jealous; I've always wanted to shoot in a diner.

Don't be jealous: if you're in a boxcar style diner, the temperature can very quickly approach 120F with HMIs inside and out...

That's a good point. I guess I was coming more from a storytelling reason more than the actual shoot itself. I should have said "I've always wanted to feature a diner in a movie".

His first feature, "Hard Eight" (sometimes called "Sydney"...or vice versa, depending on who you ask), has some good diner scenes in it. I can't remember if there were special features on that movie or if it was from a later PTA film that included some excerpts from his short as well, but I vaguely remember seeing bits of early work somewhere (maybe some Sundance Lab stuff?).

There's an interesting diner/restaurant scene at the beginning of "Roger Dodger," that I remember being shot very well by the talented Joaquin Baca-Asay...it's got a lot of characters at the table, so may not be the best example depending on your script, but I think it handles the many characters in an interesting way, very kinetic, handheld, yet stays with close-ups without feeling the need to pull back and establish where everyone is sitting, etc. Moreover, it handles a 5+ minute conversation without changing up the visual design/approach. There's also the diner scene in Reservoir Dogs, and there's a similar one in Death Proof. I guess Tarantino likes the setting.
