Hi all,

I am currently DP'ing a short movie called "Script" by director Albert Ventura using build 20.1.2 and wanted to share a few still frames with you.

"Script" Synopsis: Four people appear wearing a simple uniform in a huge dark room with nothing else besides a table, a lamp and four envelopes. They are all disoriented and seem to know nothing about what they have to do. They sit down and start speaking, wondering what it is all about. After opening the envelopes they find a script mimicking the words they are speaking to each other....

The movie is a psychological thriller, challenging the audience to accept that sometimes, reality isn't what it seems.

I am using the Birger/Impero combo with three lenses only: Canon EF 24mm f1.4L MkII, Canon EF 50mm f1.2L, Canon EF 85mm f1.2L. These lenses are working extremely smoothly with the Impero and are a real substitute for much more expensive cine primes! Focusing at f1.2 is HARD though....

These stills are taken from RedCine 20.0.0 using the Redspace/Redspace colour space settings.

Those are too sharp. ;-)

Yeah, I'm a pretty big fan of the Canon/Birger stuff. Still some little bugs, but image quality isn't one of them in my mind.

Hehehe.... the Red camera is as sharp as the lenses you put on it, and the Canon L primes are SHARP!!

Shooting has wrapped so now I await the final edit to grade....

If anyone doubts the use of a Red One as a DSMC, I think these images should put those doubts to rest. You can EASILY get magazine cover quality from the stills and you have the benefit of picking the perfect frame to use out of thousands. Game over!

Build 20.1.2 seems like the cleanest build yet. Less noise, better metering, a camera that just keeps getting better. Combine it with the right glass, good exposure techniques, a nice grade and if you have a good story and performances seems like the sky is the limit. Really impressed with a lot of the recent developments at RED.

Wow, that looks really really good.

How do you control the iris with the L-Series lenses. I didn't think they had a manual aperture on them.

You have been on reduser for over a year and don't know about the Birger canon ef smart mount? www.birger.com

It's the other half of the RED revolution for indies/nature/documentary.

Haha! Just because I've been on Reduser doesn't mean I know anything about the camera. I just like drooling over the SHOT ON RED section so I have an idea on how my Scarlet footage will look.

Thanks for the info.

Hi all, sorry I've been away shooting for the last couple of weeks so not much time on the forums.

Thanks for all your nice praise, it's always gratifying to know your work is touching others :)

To answer your questions, the short is aimed to be about 20min long when completed. No idea when that will be!!

As for the Canon primes, the 50L and 85L are almost breathless and are, quite frankly, stunning lenses that should be in ever Canon camera owner's kit. The 24L is pretty close as well. All of them can create stunning Red imagery. The ones I used were rental lenses but after using them on the movie, I'm planning to purchase them! With the Impero Birger combo they are truly a pleasure to shoot with. And seeing T1.2 listed in the lens data field sure puts a smile on your face!

Well, "Script" finally premiered at the beginning of this September in Yokohama, Japan!

It took a long time for the director to edit the film and then the sound effects and music to be completed, but that's usually the case when it's "good, fast, cheap - pick any two" :D

Anyway, here are some stills from the final film, fully graded. Click on them to open the 1920x816 sized versions. As you can see I dirtied them up a lot from the original pristine material.... but mood wise it fits the story much better!

Enjoy!
