I refuse to use Motion.

I hate Motion.

Motion blows. I thought Apple might roll Shake into Studio, but no dice.:furious3:

I will use Shake until I can't anymore, which might be a long time from now. I will also keep using AutoDuck -> AfterEffects. That is reason alone to consider Adobe's CS4/Premier as an option. Motion lacks in some major ways... I can't take it seriously. I might have to consider laying down the cash for a license of Nuke and not look back.

Livetype has been discontinued too, or rolled into Motion. :-)

I'm holding on to my copy of Shake for dear life. - There is no way that Apple believes Motion by now is an adequate replacement. My hope is they want to focus resources on the new FCS and maybe on the development of Phenomenon, or whatever it will be called that they can then incorporate in FCS to do a major rerelease maybe a year from now, after Snow Leopard is out and tested and proven, and they have brought all their ducks in compliance... One can hope at least.

Maybe finally we are getting what we have been waiting for - CODENAME "PHENOMENOM"?????????? An answer to Flame and Nuke, hypothetically.

Anybody tried ProRes 4444 with Shake? It might be the reason why they abandoned it completely at this point in time.

I'm one of the shake users who was hoping that shake would stick around but in my heart I knew it wouldn't. I use motion too but, depending on what you're trying to do, motion is a joke compared to shake.

My thought was, they would keep shake as long as it took to make motion a serious replacement for shake but I guess that thought was wrong.

I'm making extra copies of my shake for linux and shake for mac disks tonight and keeping them safe. I don't plan to abandon it until it can't work in my post workflow for some reason.

The nuke guys must be doing a little dance now.

Don't hold your breath. I know a few ex nothing real people who went over to the apple shake team and some people from the uk deep in high end vfx development.

They told me Apple has always been a R&D based company, and sometimes it's patents and R&D pay off. Like the iPhone, but 90% of the time they sit on their code and patents. It's something like Apple sits on more code and more patents then any other company in the world, or 2nd to the most, something like that.

I was also told Apple will put R&D money into their code and that code could never ever see the light of day. Apple could have put millions into the development of "PHENOMENOM," and one day decided it wasn't cost effective to bring it to market, so the code will sit idle, and since all R&D is done in absolute secrecy, us the consumers wouldn't know the difference.

Thats how Apple works, sometimes it pays off for them, and sometimes they drag us along on their at times non exciting ride.

I am a long time film fx user and I have totally switched to NUKE. The Foundry is great and Apple lost most all Shake users to them a long time ago.

I just got into shake in the last year. I love it. I really hope they waited all this time just to announce its upcoming replacement that is due VERY soon. Come on Apple, Don't let me down. give me a real replacement, I am begging.

Dude, its called NUKE. Apple has already given up on this, they are way too far behind The Foundry in development, years behind. Apple has officially ceded.

Dude, if you haven't noticed there is a slight price gap between the two products. And since when are you in the apple development loop. Shake was announced Dead 3 years ago, Yet still gets used in large features. I have a hard time seeing apple just wipe a product out all together when it is still making them money with no effort at all. I think something else is coming, and I think apple is finished with the whole "Make huge announcement at Tradeshow" thing. Hence the almost silent release of Studio 3. Apple Likes its creative partners. they will output something.

Hmm, are you confident enough that you would put money on it?

I'll bet against that. Shake was never a money maker, it was a marketing tool. You get to tell people Lord of the Rings and King Kong were created in Apple products. A few years ago Apple was much more focused on it's one time core market (creative professionals). Today, Apples market has expanded wide beyond the creatives and much more into the consumer side of things (macbooks and iphones).

I can almost guarantee you 'Phenomenon' will never see the light of day. Even FCS 3 was a pretty lackluster upgrade and thats one of their most successful software suites.

It was not merely a marketing tool. It was a tool to sell Apple hardware. They released FCS 3 to keep people interested and attached to their system while they continue tinkering with snow leopard. I would venture a guess in saying that after snow leopard and before FCS 4 we will get new compositing software. Think of the advances that 64bit offers to pro applications. The creative professionals like us are the ones that are going to need and shout the benefits of 64, and what better to show it of than hollywood using nice new macs. average consumer is never gonna notice that much of a difference.

Yeah its a long shot. Yeah, I am probably wrong. But I like Shake and I am a pretty hopeful guy who likes to imagine that something good will come of all this. Regardless, i will continue using shake until it is no longer reasonable to do so.
