Saw the following quote on apples website:

"New 4K support works natively with files from cameras such as the RED ONE and outputs directly to ProRes for HD or DPX for film."

I wonder if this mean that redcode is fully supported across all applications in the new final cut studio?

Am I wrong: That is actually "Color" that supports that export. Not FCP. Right?

Color now supports the lower priced control surfaces the Tangent Wave and the "Euphonix MC Color" but this device is not even on Euphonix's site.
Has anyone seen a preview of this product? Price?

ProRes 4444

Conforming via Cinema Tools, to R3Ds and DPX. I'm not sure how excited I should be about this, I wonder if there are any UI improvements to make it a more intuitive part of the workflow?

What no Phenomenon?

Real-time, hardware-accurate waveform monitor and vectorscopes - interesting, looking forward to see what this means.

At least on paper, it looks like Color has much tighter integration with FCP. Can deal with still frames, speed changes, etc. This will be huge if it works well. I think that is what has been missing from the FCP>Color workflows. They need to be interchanged easily.

It will be interesting if this means a usable low cost 4K edit solution, exciting!

BUT:
DVD studio pro 4.
no blu-ray, what´s wrong with Apple.

It doesn't seem like Apple is interested in investing in Blue Ray. They obviously don't see the technology lasting much longer than a few years (at best). For now, DVD Studio Pro has what you need to create a Blue-Ray disk, but nothing more. That is probably as far as they are willing to go.

On a more important note for this forum: Can anyone say for sure if Final Cut Pro (not Color!) can natively read R3D files? Seriously, we have been waiting for this for so long and in this documentation I can't find anything concrete! Has anyone else found anything at all?

I thought FCP had a speed change mode already on 6.02? maybe not? I know add slow motion to a shot but I assumed that you could increase speed on a shot too?

It can. :)

But what I think the post was referring to was that the previous version of Color couldn't properly handle certain effects/filters applied to the clips when imported straight from FCP.

4K support
Color 1.5 allows you to grade and render at maximum quality, with a workflow that supports native 4K files from cameras such as the RED ONE. Output directly to ProRes 4444 for HD delivery or render DPX or Cineon files for digital cinema mastering or film outs.

Note that it does say "native". So that means R3D, right?

Apple (and Steve Jobs) has stated in the past that Blu-ray capability is not including due to the licensing fees involved. They're waiting for Sony and the Blu-ray Group to lower the fees.

no it appears that they're relying on log and transfer which in effect is a qt wrapper. As long as we can get a full debayer out of Color I'm happy.

The workflow is the following-

edit in 2K within FCP using either Log and Transfer to ProRes or Log and Transfer to native-wrapped QuickTime.

Then grade in Color.

You can grade R3D native directly if you used Native-wrapped via Send to Color. You can do the same from ProRes via a side-trip to Cinema Tools to build a database of your R3D files, then combining that with an EDL from FCP and the CT database in Color. I have this in the book. There's an excerpt with part this workflow available here:

The complete workflow is in the book which ships August 20th. :)
