  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCODE 36 vs 28 on 8GB Card?

All my 8gig lexar cards say media 2 slow when in redcode 36. I thought 36 was a 16gig card and drive thing.

I was able to record both 28 and 36 on an 8GB card. Both gave me around 4 and half minutes of footage, shooting 4K 2:1.

But is this because the media is actually too slow or the RED programming/firmware has read that it is a Lexar or non-RED card and put up a message that they are not allowing it (presumably because they feel it is or MAY be too slow)? I have six of Soderberg's CHE lexar cards but haven't tested this.

Red got back to me and said that it all depends on the resolution and project frame rate (time base). For instance you can record RC 36 on an 8GB if you are shooting 4K 2:1 at 25 fps but not 29.97 fps. You will not be able to record RC 36 on 8GB shooting 4K 16:9 or 4K HD.
